I ask something so simple, it's nuts. Could one of you modders make it so Charcoal (ID: 263:1) uses a new texture/icon instead of recycling coal? It's getting on my damn nerves that they use the same texture and you can't give it a new one without editing the code, and If i knew a damn thing about modding, I'd do it.
I even have some bonus ideas to go with it.
Charcoal currently uses the same texture as Coal. Let's change that to this, a Charcoal Briquette.
And now, for what would be worth a modder's time, probably..
2 new items which make 2 new blocks.
Charcoal Bags () and Coalboxes ()
The Front, Sides and Back, and Top and Bottom. 3 Textures.
All sides, a Top and a Bottom. 3 Textures.
A Charcoal Bag would be made from 8 Charcoal and a Cloth Block in the bottom middle slot in the Workbench. A Charcoal Box would be from 8 Coal and a Wooden Plank in the bottom middle slot.
If making an item place a block is a bit too complicated, then just use the textures and register them as new blocks.
a Charcoal Bag/Coalbox would be able to smelt a single stack of items, as they have 8 units of fuel in them that already do the same job if just put in 8 at a time. This is simply to save chest/inventory space and to place a decorative block on the worldmap.
Can anybody do it and are they up to the task? Charcoal Bags and Coalboxes should NOT be moveable by pistons, and reject redstone current. They are flammable.
I don't see a modder doing this, mostly because it's a waste of time, yes they use the same texture, but that is because charcoal isn't really that used, I mean, the only time I have ever used it is on the first day, so I imagine that if you stick with coal you would be fine.

I happen to use charcoal a lot, thank you very much. Being able to plant trees and render them into charcoal is a big freaking help when you've gone and mined your mines dry of coal or couldn't be arsed to go mine for coal and waste pick durability.

I don't think this thing's workin, because it blackscreens even with just modloader, and I am experienced with mod use. Either it isn't working with modloader or it is incompatible with CJB's modpack or 1.6.6 Pistons. Modloader crash screen does not show nor shows a log.
Smith_61 actually delivered on what I actually wanted, which was separation of Coal and Charcoal into 2 separate icons.
Therefore, with his permission, here are the Dropbox links to a 1.6.6 version and a 1.7.2 version. They need Modloader for 1.6.6 or 1.7.2. assume standard mod installation protocols (get rid of Meta-Inf if you haven't already), and do not whine to me period.
