Minecraft need SHADOWS, and not the stupid shadows Minecraft already has, im talking bout more realistic dynamic lighting such as is shown in this video.
Although obviously this video is a fake it clearly shows the kind of effects im talking about.
I mean with glsl shaders mod we got all kinda fancy pixel shaders and visual effects, however to my knowledge nothing exists that provides the type of realistic lighting im thinking about.
I expect more from a than what ive been given!
Outdoors the current lighting method more or less is ok, however when its dark, especially at night, the contrast between light and dark should be much higher, shadows should be cast more realistically and the effects of ambient occlusion should be so evident in a cave or in any enclosed space for that matter.
do you have any idea what kind of computer it would take to get those kind of results?
Dude...im not stupid, that vid was pre-rendered. however, i am an amature game maker myself and ive made stuff that looked not so different than that in blender so i know its possible. Im simply talking about a more realistic lighting engine akin to Raytracing and/or modern dynamic lighting. I am not suggesting something thats never been done before but some lighting tweaks would be really cool.
Theirs a reason high resolution textures look so crappy in Minecraft, its because the low definition lighting doesn't match the hd textures it casts it's light upon. That video demonstrated how improved lighting can make hd textures integrate beautifully into the Minecraft experience.
games built on geometry have light maps pre-calculated. little dynamic stuff that affects only the immediate area, like a car, can be approximated on the fly for some dynamic lights/shadows. however, when the entire level is dynamic, this is no longer an option. every single block in minecraft is a dynamic object. there can be no way of precomputing radiosity.
yeah...that's why you don't process that lighting for the whole level, and you use a less intensive form of lighting for distant objects....your just a troll
i will tho
