Hey all, just thought I'd put a request out there for anyone interested in trying it out.
How about a 3rd person view mod that allows you to actually play as such?
Currently using the 3rd person view is annoying since you can only target what is directly in front of you, the camera zooms in too close when you are in tight areas, etc.
Imagine this.. 3rd person with targeting using the mouse! Maybe you can rotate the camera with right clicking? And maybe the camera moves through blocks so it doesn't zoom in too close to you?
I was thinking something similar to this:
I'd just love to play Minecraft in 3rd person but can't due to how it's currently set up.
I would perfer FALLOUT kind of third person where the camera is a bit on your right side of your shoulder (or left) and it's free roam too... Yes I know THIS IS MINECRAFT..

I haven't played Fallout but that sounds pretty neat. Would be nice if it was implemented.
Good idea...I was thinking more along the line of Star Wars Battlefront, where the camera and reticle are centered above the person's head, not on it. Minor side note: What texture pack are you using? It looks awesome :biggrin.gif:

If missing a deadline makes you a bad person, then Notch must be Satan himself.

Only the bestest texture pack ever!.. Jolicraft!
And yeah, I was checking out Battlefront II to get ideas. Although, I think it'd be nice to also be able to rotate the camera anywhere, I.E. in front of your char (For dynamic screenshots maybe?).

What I think 3rd person should be like:
IDEA 1
Character's head will always face straight on the vertical axis. Pretty much, your head can only rotate horizontal, which will also affect where you aim (!), moving your mouse up and down will only change the camera angle. This is useful for playing 3RD Person with killing stuff in mind.
EXAMPLE: Sonic Robo Blast 2
IDEA 2
Mouse will not rotate your character at all. WASD will rotate and move your character in that direction. Head is restricted to horizontal like before. Mouse will be FREE from restricted movement (!), hold RIGHT CLICK to rotate camera or click LEFT CLICK to face and USE-ITEM in that direction. If wielding TOOL or FISTS, it will be punch. Else, normal right-click will happen (Eg: Nothing will happen if you're holding a ROSE, while you will fire your BOW). If you're trying to melee where you clicked, but are too far away, your character will walk to the position and then attack.
Yeah, I'd probably say I like the first one. Although, from what I understand, the second allows for free movement of the camera? And make use of directionals sort of like Megaman Legends? So actually, both sound great.
Like I said above, I'd think it'd be awesome to be able to rotate your camera anywhere if need be for some dynamic angles. Maybe some button can toggle auto-lock the camera behind you?

It already is possible to center the camera in front of your character-just hold F1 while in third person. Also, thanks for the link to the texture pack! My save looks beautiful with the pack activated! The only problem is that the diamond sword is apparently a lightsaber...I don't like the lightsaber diamond sword, really. I have some editing to do...
Edit: Finished the editing and realized that looking at your character from the front no longer works while testing...

Yup, I have no idea why Notch removed that feature. Can't take screenshots from the front anymore. :sad.gif:
Man, I'm really surprised a mod like this doesn't exist! Who doesn't like to get a clear view of everything, including your character's skin?
This. But make it so that when you mouse over a block that is too far away, you cursor is grey, and when you are close enough to interact with the block or mob, it would turn yellow/green/red or some other color.

4x4'ing: Its worse than a drug, its a Jeep thing. (I made the banner. Pm me if you want one like this)
I would love to have a mod like this. Seriously now. I love having different skins and all but never get to appreciate them the way I want to because 3rd person is so annoying. Sooo... if you could make one I'll give you a cookie :biggrin.gif:

Or... just a diamond.
Seriously. I'm surprised one hasn't been created yet!
Though, one modder mentioned they would like to start working on it. Maybe someday soon!
Another way would be to have the controls change to something along the lines of World of Warcraft.
W - move forward
A - turn left
S - turn right
D - move backwards
Q - strafe right
E - strafe left
Mouse - changes where crosshair is positioned
Spacebar - jump
etc.

Yeah, MegaMan Legends had similar controls I believe. I'd have to agree this would be the way to do it.

I haven't even thought of this even though i play in 3rd person a lot.
SOMEONE MAKE THIS.
