My idea is simple: A bow and arrow that's reusable, something that doesn't need constant replenishing.
It'd be crafted like this:
(A bit crude but the sprite would be up for change obviously)
The arrow would be replaced with a sword, or another item depending on what you feel like shooting.
How it'd function is fairly simple: You shoot the arrow, it travels slightly slower and has less range due to the string, and when it sticks into a mob, it does damage, then you right click again and yank the arrow free, damaging the mob again as you reel the arrow back for another shot. The weapon would have unlimited uses but the arrow (Or other launched item) would break down as you use it. After the item breaks you have an empty Ropebow that needs to be reloaded.
It'd also be balanced seeing as you could only target one mob at a time with it, not to mention the slight delay as you wait for the arrow/item to come reeling back in, I think it'd be best to use something similar to Crycet's hookshot for that part.
I figured arrows would have the best range/speed, but they'd also be the weakest and break the quickest, possibly breaking after 20 successful shots.
Loading swords into the ropebow would produce different ranges and speeds, but each of them would act the same and take TRIPLE damage to its durability with each successful shot, that's the trade off when you're using swords in this thing.
Possible other ideas include loading the Ropebow with a bucket for long-distance water/lava collecting. Or a torch to stick on a distant wall to see what lays in the darkness before reeling it back in.
So a user named Alkio97 made a topic about 4 days ago asking for a modded version of Cryect's hookshot, and instead of pulling things it just did damage, unfortunately there were several users who decided to be massive pricks and not give the poor guy a break, I got the idea of what he wanted.
A bow and arrow that's reusable, something that doesn't need ammo.
So I'm going to run with Alkio's idea and put my own slight spin on it: The rope bow!

So what do you guys think?
Sounds interesting but you should make it so it does have limited uses.
Awesome Idea tho.

Go check out some of my suggestions on my profile, in the about me tab!
I'm still pretty adamant on the idea of it having unlimited uses, the weapon would be balanced enough with it's shorter range and the delay between shots, I feel not everything in minecraft has to break.
I like the idea but i'm having a hard time accepting that the arrow never gets blunt and the rope never wears thin. You could expand on this idea by having multiple types of "ammo" that would need to be crafted with it to change the type, like a torch on a string that can be used to fire at walls/floors in deep caves just to take a look what's down there without building a staircase, or a bucket on a string to haul up lava/water from the depths. Obviously these would be a bit more complicated but are similar enough, at least in my opinion, to be considered valid options for such a device, should you decide it's worth it.
In any event, I'd still like to see this :smile.gif:
...Huh, that's a good idea actually, the torch-on-a-rope and the bucket idea. I'll add that tomorrow, thanks for the idea man
I'm fairly sure that the fishing rod eventually broke if you went to far and the rope snapped. I've never used the fishing rod really, so I'm not sure if it does, but it would work here. I mean, eventually the rope will snap, right? It's not even really rope, just string.
It didn't really break, the line is just cancelled and you just get the rod back. and with the rope bow's case if you left the arrow stuck in a mob and they walked out of range, the arrow would just get yanked out of its own accord.

Okay I've thought about it and added a few other ideas/features to the Ropebow, sorry for bumping this topic so damn much but this recent idea sounds too fun to not share.

Actually the fishing rod doesn't damage mobs. and the rope bow wouldn't yank mobs around, only damage them.

why not make it so you can climb the rope
