My 8 year old nephew is Minecraft obsessed. Yesterday I bought him a new laptop and the full version of Minecraft.
He is insisting on getting Tektopia Villager Mod. I don’t know what this is and he’s too young to properly articulate what he wants me to do.
I presume it’s something that is added or implemented into the regular game? He said something about villagers doing the work for him automatically? I haven’t a clue.
Anyways, how do I find this and how do I install it?
Next, open Task Manager and navigate to the .minecraft folder. Under this folder will be the mods folder. Copy and paste the mod file, whole, into the mods folder. DO NOT open or unzip this file.
Now you can run the Instance and the mod will load and be playable.

The new laptop came with the full version of Minecraft preinstalled
Like below:
However, from watching the tutorial install videos it's saying I have to start the game with the Minecraft Launcher as below, but when I try this it doesn't list my own full version that's preinstalled, only the option to play the demo/trial or buy the full version even though it's installed, and I'm trying to launcher the full version throught the Minecraft Launcher not the standalone Minecraft icon on the desktop
I see the confusion. Yeah mods are for the Java Edition, not Bedrock (the one you get in the Microsoft Store). It is confusing but Java Edition is the original game that has mods which are made by fans and requires Forge as a modding layer, while Bedrock is a version that is made for multiple platforms (Windows 10, Mobile & Console).
If you can refund Bedrock try that but otherwise Bedrock isn't a bad version of the game but it won't have mod support for it, making it impossible to install Forge and other aspects.
What Majestyc2k1 said is right though once you get things going for Java Edition, but it depends on you want to do, you could keep Bedrock/or refund Bedrock and see if you can get Java Edition, now I don't know if Mojang's support team is busy with others in the queue for other issues to be solved, or if Microsoft support can help you. But I'd say try any of there support lines and see what they can do to help.
As this forum is just people in the community, and a major unofficial fan made forum owned by Curse and Magic Find, not Mojang's official forum.
I'd recommend trying these sites if you want help with refunding or confusion between the versions:

The Viktoria villager mod replaces the normal villages in Minecraft with a new and advanced version made by tektopia (he is a famous Youtuber).
but it is only available on the version of Minecraft 1.12. I will put a link for a site that explains the step-by-step process to download how to download it and will also give you the download link.
I won’t beat around the bush

Really appreciate it
First, you'll need to download and install Forge for Minecraft 1.12:
https://files.minecraftforge.net/maven/net/minecraftforge/forge/index_1.12.html
Next, make a Instance (Profile) using Forge. Open a world w/o installing any mods yet. Forge will create new folders you'll need next.
Download the mod:
https://www.curseforge.com/minecraft/mc-mods/tektopia
Next, open Task Manager and navigate to the .minecraft folder. Under this folder will be the mods folder. Copy and paste the mod file, whole, into the mods folder. DO NOT open or unzip this file.
Now you can run the Instance and the mod will load and be playable.

When I download Forge and it says how do I want to open this file, what do I use?
Thanks :-)
