What I do if I want a quick install (Forge & Optifine less installing method)
If you want things to be easy there is a few ways, get a modpack that is just Forge and Optifine included, I do this with the Technic launcher as many there are just those 2 and I can add what I want afterwards.
If your ok with installing Forge/Optifine yourself:
If you don't want to go with a modpack launcher like Technic then just stick with the Vanilla launcher, install Forge and have the Optifine mod in the mods folder (I don't think you need to extract the Optifine file to a mod, to do this you just double click the Optifine jar and a window will come up).
How to install Forge or Fabric:
If you want to know how to install Forge just get it from it's official website https://files.minecraftforge.net/, get the version of Minecraft your after and download the installer, double click the installer, and let it do it's thing, it should create a mods folder, just put the mods into that folder (this is under %appdata% and inside the .minecraft folder). That's all there is to it.
For advise on mods MrCrayfish's Furniture mod is good, but as I don't know the version your playing on say 1.12.2, 1.14.4 or so I don't know what to recommend or if I should recommend a Fabric mod. MC's Furniture mod has most of the stuff you'd be after, most others have good stuff just not as much or support for as many versions. If you were ok with Fabric I'd recommend Adorn. But it depends on what sort of things you want in your Modern House, if you want a TV, Sofa, Kitchen Benches, Fridge, Coffee Table and so on.
If you want other mods for making building easier like Build Wands or more building tools I could recommend some but if they aren't what your after that fine, just thought I'd point them out.
if you give me info on the version you'll be playing or what you want to be in your build I can recommend some but without that I don't know what to recommend. You could always try looking on Curseforge for furniture mods here: https://www.curseforge.com/minecraft/mc-mods/search?search=furniture
Hi. I want to build a modern house on singleplayer minecraft.
I thought of installing the furniture mod to be used with optifine. I had trouble installing optifine and forge together.
Can anyone help me to create a minecraft suitable for this purpose? Advice on other mods / solutions for optifine + forge / Other solutions
