When modding the game always keep in mind what Modloader (Forge, Liteloader, Rift, Fabric) and version of the game it is for (1.7.10, 1.12.2, 1.14.4, 1.15, etc.). Mods don't work on every version of the game, Minecraft and Modloaders change a lot between versions and compatibility for some things isn't the same for others.
Sometimes Forge mods might work on 1.9.4 and 1.10.2 but other times if it's for 1.7.10 or 1.15 too much has changed either by Mojang or by the Modloader teams so it can't be supported. Always keep this in mind, while it can be annoying if you want mods for certain versions it can make things fun to work with limitations or find alternatives to mods that might do the same or different but better.
