I have a very small server running forge 1.12.2 and am looking for a mod that will prevent mobs from spawning in a set area. I used to use Forge Essentials when my server was running 1.7.10 but i am updating to 1.12.2 and that mod is no longer being maintained. Is there another similar server side mod like Forge Essentials?
Doesn't look like it can be adjusted for a specific spot (IE player built town). I want to be able to create a region, and adjust Mob Spawning in just that region, unless i am missing something.
It's a little hard to find in the wiki, since there isn't really an example for it, but it supports specifying x/y/z ranges with a "position" rule, so as long as the player built town can be covered by a cuboid (or a few possibly-overlapping cuboids), that should meet your needs. I haven't used Forge Essentials, so I don't know if it supported defining a more complicated region shape.
Cubeiod is exactly what I need, I will have to look at this mod to find out how to do the x y z position rules over the next few days. Will report back.
The position doesn't really describe what would be x,y,z, and if it would cover from build limit to bedrock. The documentation on that mod is very lacking. Is there any other mod that could do what i am looking for?
Wait, I'm fairly sure I've used that parameter before, though I'll admit it's been a while and I won't argue that the documentation is lacking. Try something like this:
position:0-40,0-255,0-40
The position is specified as x, y, then z, in case you need different ranges. Looking at the source code, I'm not sure it would work at all with only one range specified.
So, with this mod you could disable a certain mob from spawning in a dimension from another mod? Or perhaps disable certain mobspawners (you know, the block)?

It probably doesn't offer all the features of Forge Essentials, but for the specific purpose you mention, I think this mod will work:

It would appear position is for just up an down, so preventing mobs from underground would be like 0-60 or whatever does not set up an x,y,z region.

For anyone interested i used this command in the blacklist rules portion of the config file.
position: 204-304,0-255,124-290 & mobtype:monster
with it being x,y,z as expected.
