I've read a lot of articles and have tried so many things, but when I start up minecraft the mods are not there and the choice for mods is not there. I am doing something really wrong.
I run Ubuntu 14
Installed the mod loader. Updated JDK. All kinds of things.
All the Linux instructions in various articles and forum posts are from 2013, 2012 or 2014.

Any advice for a novice?
I am using Ubuntu and mods work fine for me so there gotta be a way.
Here what I would do, first load Forge on it own and verifies that your Minecraft client is running that Forge. THEN shutter down and add in the mods in the respected folder and they should shows up.
