Okay, so I know y'all have had this discussion but, I will discuss adfly.
I don't understand why mods and maps use adfly, first off.
Adfly can redirect you to a download that looks like the real download, for a new user this can be really confusing. Especially someone who has never used adfly before. Most times these clickbait ads can contain Trojans and adware, and other malware.
Adfly lies, they say the advertising is safe when they NEVER check for malware, 95% precent of the ads on adfly are full of viruses and adware.
Yeah, I get it they make money, but seriously! A site that's KNOWN to cause problems to many new users.. this needs to stop NOW.
One time, on a older computer a long time ago, I was wanting to get a Minecraft map and I clicked Download and it redirected me to adfly,see at that time I didn't know about the skip ad thing. There was a purple "download" button, I clicked it and Norton found it as a Trojan.
I don't know why adfly is so popular in the MC community it's sad, either we should find a safer and more reliable alternative to adfly, or just STOP this revenue thing.
And with an ad blocker, sometimes it doesn't let you skip ad.. because you have an ad blocker. I don't CARE what all you say about supporting modders/mappers
All you have to do is click on "Skip Ad". Simple as that. If you aren't sure, go ask your daddy.

It's not the modders' fault that people click into the publicity. Even if you get malware, you're supposed to have an antivirus. If you can't take your time and not click on the first "download" button, then it falls on your side, for not being careful.
And yes, adf.ly needs those ads. You seeing those ads is how adf.ly gets the money it then pays to it's users. There's no other way around this.
It really is a matter of common sense. If there's a countdown at the top of your screen next to the part that is obviously a part of Adfly, then your brain should go "Hey, I should probably click that and not the thing that looks fake."
These ads can do automatic downloads, and worst of all bring up nasty pop-ups. I'm just saying, why would mods use a WEBSITE that's known to give users problems and pop-ups.

On all my years clicking adfly link, i haven't seen an "Automatic Download"
If you're too scared of the pop-ups then use a "fair" ad blocker, so you only hide malicious ads.

Modders put a lot of effort in their mods. Adf.ly is a easy, user-friendly way to support the modders. It's an incentive for the modder to keep working on his mod. Else they'd just trash it as soon as minecraft updated or they lost any interest.
How about YOU stop being so ignorant and stop bashing down on a system we've been using for a lot of time? Do you see anyone else going against adf.ly?

After a quick google search, apparently google's own shortening service and bit.ly are the best (google being the better one with the only disavantage being no custom links).
I guess we can swap the system.

So modders should not put adfly links because some people are too dumb to click a big, yellow button that says "Skip Ad" ?
New users might not know about adfly, so they click on the fake Download button.
Even though most (if not all) modders say:
"Wait 5 seconds then click the yellow button that says Skip Ad"
Also some of them are kind enough that they put direct links to dropbox, so the user doesn't have to go through adfly
