And I generally assume that people can read mod descriptions where it clearly says that Forge is for 1.8, and 1.8 only. Period. NOT 1.8.8.
Same goes for Optifine. Optifine 1.8.8 is not a 1.8 mod, it's a 1.8.8 mod. Which is very clearly stated in its description. There is Optifine for MC 1.8 (mislabeled 1.8.0).
Unfortunetly I'm very often disapointed on that front.
I wouldn't say you trying to use a mod meant for a different game versions, while ignoring clear descriptions, is an "inane point".
End result is: We get tons of people who "assume" stuff, crash because they ignored instructions, and complain here about, what's essencially, their own lack of common sense/reading comprehension.
Yes, I know that sounds rude. It still needs to be said. There's at least 10 similar reports daily on this forum.
Ok so if i am running forge 'release 1.8-forge11.14.3.1450, minecraft 1.8.8, then what version of optifine do i need to be able to use it?
Instead of trying to make yourself feel more knowledgable and intelligent, how about you just explain to me how i can line the 3 program versions up appropriately so i can use the mod? Which was the point of my thread.
I have spent days reading about mods and trying to get everything working and it seems to be a huge mess and i don't see how anyone can really use mods effectively if you have a bunch of mods that are different versions and all need different versions of forge to work.
"Yes, I know that sounds rude. It still needs to be said. There's at least 10 similar reports daily on this forum."
This is the nature of forums where you ask for advice - people ask for advice.
At least I spent hours reading by myself before posting for help.
The inane point is you trying to 'educate' me about how 'stupid' i am by asking 'why doesnt the mod work with x version' instead of just helping me solve the problem.
If your leg was bleeding and you asked for me help to fix it and i told you, well you shouldn't to near dogs who will bite you, you should fine the right friendly dogs, but then i don't tell you where they are or how to find them and just berate you - does that help?
No, you still get bitten, you still bleed and we still have the same problem, except now you think I am a d!ck because I didn't help you.
I don't think you're a d!ck yet, so help me.
Optifine: Link Removed 1.8.7 - how am i supposed to get that to work with minecraft 1.8.8 and forge?
Hi
I am using minecraft 1.8.8 and downloaded optifine 1.8.8 and it doesn't work, just crashes at the load.
Forge is using the latest version, it works with pixelmon and mo creatures ok.
any ideas why? no crash report as the whole game just cancels out.
I am using forge: forge 11.14.3.1450
The newest one that isn't the 'experimental version'.
Well I am assuming the 'newest' forge, would work with the 'newest' minecraft client.
I have also tried the experimental version of forge and it doesn't work with the 1.8 mods.
So if you can explain why 1.8 mods don't work with the latest forge, or any forge, i would be very appreciative.
As my whole point of posting was to get a result, not discuss inane points.

This mod for example - (i wanna get optifine working too!)
How can i make this work with the current version of minecraft?
What version of forge do i need for it?
Link Removed
It says it works for:
Compatible with Minecraft: 1.6.4, 1.5.2
The installation instructions are for pc and literally just say 'download forge', there is no specific version specified.
I read that i can set MC to use alpha/beta versions of MC in the profile which shoudl then make the mod work with it correctly, is that the case?
