The title kind of sums it up, haha. So, do minecraft 1.7.10 forge mods work for 1.8 and/or 1.8.1? I'd love for a quick answer please because I have so many fun and challenging mods that make single player so much more fun for me!
Hey guys, don't hate. It's a good question. Minecraft is unusual in that its plug-ins (mods) are not forward compatible.
No the 1.7.10 mods don't work in 1.8, but the mod author doesn't need to change much to update a mod from 1.7.10 to 1.8 (although you do need to learn how to make 1.8 resource packs to make the mod blocks appear correctly in 1.8).
The reason that mods only work for specific versions of Minecraft is that the Minecraft code is obfuscated (obfuscation is kind-of like encryption, but not nearly as secure). The obfuscation formula is different for each Minecraft version, so even if the code of a mod is identical, it needs to be obfuscated differently for each version of Minecraft. That's why 1.7.10 mods don't work in 1.8 (or in 1.7.2, for that matter).

I'd think if a mod has a more advanced render, it would take more time to update than what you describe.

It actually more like the opposite. The direct rendering code has not changed much (for entities and tile entities), but the renderring for basic blocks and items is 100% different (and is now specified in the resourcepack instead of the Java code). However, there are a few Forge API features that are not working in 1.8 yet, most notably custom villager trades.

I'm pretty sure Forge 1.7.10 was released after Minecraft 1.7.10, so there is no such thing as Forge 1.7.10-pre 4 or any other snapshot.

I stand corrected. I was under the impression that the Forge team didn't push releases until after the vanilla release so that they wouldn't have to rewrite their code after each snapshot.
Was 1.7.10 the version that deleted blocks that weren't registered using the new ID system?

If forge is for 1.7 then how could it work on 1.8?
Just what?
>doesn't realise that when mods are advertised as 1.7.10 it actually means they're for 1.7.10

Even thought it does not work a lot of people wish this could possibly work.
