So i've been playing around in a lot of multiplayer worlds like Mythcarft and The Archon and they allow mods (unless there not hacks of course) and so i have been going through but i dont really know what mods are best... so i want to ask you guys if you can put down your top 10 mods for multiplayer. I want 2 top tens: 1 for 1.7.10 forge and 1 for 1.8 forge

you can take away Minimap and Damage indocator
Any mods that are both Forge mods and are also not strictly client-sided (so minimap mods, sound mods or any other strictly client-only feature mods are out) will load on a Forge server. The likelihood that it won't crash is up to if the mod is coded correctly, but the mod itself should load. Forge is a universal API, what this means is the same mod file has got both the client and server code, Forge / FML just calls the methods based on the logic side currently running (client, server, or both (also referred to as common)), so one method could be common, but this could call another method that is strictly for the client, and another strictly for the server. The same file is also installed on both client and server.
Non-Forge mods are a bit trickier. LiteLoader mods are strictly client-sided only, as LiteLoader is designed for client-sided mods like minimap mods. Base editing mods, so the GLSL shader mod, or Optifine, or actually even Forge (Forge itself is counted as a base editing mod that provides a framework for other non-base-editing mods), are tricky. Some mods are client-sided, others are server-sided, others are for both. GLSL shader mod is client-only, same with Optifine, Forge however is for both.
The turning point is whether or not the server has the mod installed, or whether you do. If you have a specific mod installed, but the server does not have that mod installed, you will not be able to use that mod. If the server has a mod installed that you don't have installed, you will not be able to connect to the server. This only goes for mods that are for both client and server.
