I think I might be guilty of downloading mods from sites like those. I have changed my habits and have been downloading mods from official mod websites like curseforge.com and avoiding those kinds of websites. Many mod authors host their mods on curseforge.com!
What do you guys think about mods hosted directly on authors' websites? I can see it might be a little harder to tell real from fake but most repost sites use the generic keywords like "free," "minecraftmods" etc etc in their domains, whereas a real author's site would most likely be their name. I was thinking about this earlier, although I'm not sure my own mods would really benefit from the extras of having their own dedicated site.
Edit: I've just had a look at my stats, the links posted on a randomly chosen site from the first page of "minecraft mods" Google search have far higher downloads than my most recent versions. I don't have referral stats, so I can't confirm these downloads came from those sites (which conveniently strip my ads), but it sure looks like it. The previous 1.11 version for Better HUD has double the downloads of the current 1.12 version, and 12x the dowloads of the current 1.11 version.
Not all mod sites are bad. For example, minecraftmods.com isn't bad. It has a link to the official forum post if you don't want to download it from there.
Whenever I do a google search on 'minecraft shaders', shadersmod net comes up as the first result, and your guys' chrome plugin says I should avoid that site.
you might as well add Open eye to blacklist they falseley expose peoples mods and they repost Outdated versions
proof? https://openeye.openmods.info/mod/interstellar it was not made by mcreator it was made out of eclipse and java they false lied about my mod and repost it as a undownloadable files

You know just to be extra mean to these websites (for a good reason), put an MCreator mod on their websites. Guess what happens! Pylo gets involved and boy their terms of use states that trouble comes to sites that steal the mod and don’t give credit, and the bad websites don’t relize that Pylo is very serious about this kind of thing, and I’m certain Minecraft fake comercial stealing sites don’t want legal trouble now don’t they? Ha! Take that dumb stealers! Watch as They get taken down, one by one. Good job trying to spread the word about mod reposts. If your going to make a mod webpage, ASK first and remember to not make money off anyone’s mod (Especially if the mod is posted for free and made for free!). It’s illegal to make money off something that’s free from the start, right? (If otherwise, than well that’s terrible.). Good luck trying to stopmodreposts.

that's exactly what I did to avoid those sites. If I search for a mod and the search engine (usually duck duck go) gives me a link anywhere besides Minecraftforum.net or CurseForge, I am immediately skeptical, check out the link, and if it's one of these sites, I report the listing to the search engine provider. Since this is usually duck duck go, and they are allegedly very receptive to feedback, I then get a nice warm feeling knowing I've done my good deed for the day :P. Just do your part, and call out anyone that isn't doing theirs.
On an entirely separate matter, does anyone else get a 404 when they try to visit stopmodreposts.org? It seems like the site is only up half the time, so I am beginning to wonder if there's some corporate espionage going on here. or maybe it's just something simple like the site is hosted from home and the computer turns off?
Well, that is Greg Ewing's personal mod development page. You know? The original developer of ArchitectureCraft and StargateCraft?

The most annoying part for me personally, is that users of my mods may not be able to reach out to me. I can't respond to their comments. The may not be able to have the latest content, and the forum page might not be updated.
It's also annoying that I can't see the total download count...
They don't only exists, they keep showing up at the top in google when searching for mods. Really annoying and even more so when trying to see if there is a mod for 1.12.2 and there isn't but these crappy sites tell you it is.

I found a site redistributing Resource Packs: http://resourcepack.net/
Not all mod sites are bad. For example, minecraftmods.com isn't bad. It has a link to the official forum post if you don't want to download it from there.
Does anyone know of any legit sites where I can find shader packs? I currently scour the forums for them.
