Avernite, I remember you said that you pay 20$/month. Accidentally I found this site: http://www.diamondhost.org , they offer various options, for example a 1-16 minecraft slot should cost 4$/month. Probably there are other costs, I' do not know how server works... Hope it helps.
Cool, thanks for the link Their Villager plan is comparable to what I'm currently getting with Amazon, I think. Didn't see any information about processing capacity which is probably the main thing. 24/7/365 up-time would be nice, though!
So I made the long journey to Cobblefort. I passed the Anthill too, in the distance, but did not investigate. The trip can be done in one day from my cave if you go more or less directly there, at a walk. My quest was to get some cactus Numenor kindly left there for Numek and I in the west. Half way on it started raining, of course, so I had to decide if I wanted to go on or turn back - I decided to be brave and go on. I am level 5 so I had one extra heart as an advantage.
I followed the dirt pillar markers and found what I was searching for. Cobblefort is an impressive structure. It seems to be double walled, and it took me a little while to work out how to get in. Then I seemed to get on the roof and not know how to get into the middle. I finally worked it out, and felt safe, and then got shot by a Skeli! So, it is not 100% safe in there in some spots. Night fell. I spent the night looking at the impressive loot collected by the inhabitants - none of whom were around at the time. I found the cactus and took 2 of the 8 there. I left some just in case of mishap on the way home and I somehow lost it all. I also left 4 wood and 4 torches as payment for this - I hope this is seen as fair. I also took some cheese as my sugar supplies were running out and, well, the mighty Cheesman had supplied a generous chestful that looked so inviting.
In the morning it stopped raining and I went out to look at the site for the first time properly. That is when I noticed the sugar farm on fire. At first I thought it was a zombie just getting toasted in the sun, then I thought it was more likely to be a Fire Elemental? I don't know, but I took a screen shot of it. I replanted what I could, then headed on home.
The only other thing to mention is that the cactus didn't grow in the three days I played after that - I wonder, does it only grow in deserts? It is quite possible I just need to be patient.
Cacti grow very slowly so you'll need to wait a while. Nice screenshot of the burning sugar cane! I don't think it would have been started by a fire elemental because they only spawn in deep lava and that shouldn't be anywhere near the surface. Maybe a skeleton or zombie that dropped before you noticed, or an invisible stalker (though I can't remember if they burn in the sun or not).
So I managed to play some more today - more than I should have really! But hey, I have been enjoying myself.
I have been playing a bit of "pimp my cave". The cactus is very effective against spiders, and near the entrance stops you from being mobbed by Zombies, as it performs crowd control and softens them up nicely.
And on the inside I have added some stairs so I reduce the jumping I do, and laid down a nice oak floor. I did move the bed so I hope it is not anyone elses spawn.
I made a cobble furnace out of gravel, having found a really good vein of it nearby. I also managed to make my first copper pick, and used it to go and dig some copper ore I spied on the first day. That was exciting, as the ore was half way up a ravine, and I misjudged where to dig and fell to my death on a ledge halfway down. When I returned I found that the new pick had fallen all the way to the ravine floor - so I had to venture there. I got some coal quickly, then towered back up, stopping to get the 3 copper. So now I have half a pick and enough copper ingots to make another pick.
The other cool thing was that I got another melon seed. I don't know what the chances are of that, but there you go. I have planted it a long way away from where any action happens so that it should not get trampled this time! Here's hoping anyway. It is near the sugar farm. I probably should have put a fence around it, but I am low on wood....
I think I am going to try my luck with an expedition to the North of Cobblefort, somewhere I can find an Ice Plains and settle. Might dip into the Cobblefort cheese supply, I did make about 15-20 during my time at The Anthill and Cobblefort. -40 going to be a serious, serious problem though.
Maybe you could become the resident cook at Cobblefort for a while and get some of your strength back from furnace XPs. It would be funny if you could craft a chef hat from wool and get some kind of cooking bonus while wearing it.
You can either harvest them here (remember : 4 slices = 1 seed now), or use the seeds I now have in my main chest
You can see some of the copper I have, which mostly came from this nice find, while digging around for gravel...
And I just wanted to add that I find the "experimental" mini-base design ingenious. Bravo Numenor!
I propose this design should be called a "Numenor tower"! The only addition I would make is perhaps a single slab two high above the pillar as shelter from rain. I hate being rained on, and in MITE there is the hunger penalty!
Numek - a zombie you can't kill? Probalby a bug, but I don't know what a "Wight" looks like - perhaps it was one of them? You need silver swords to kill them, or have I got that completely wrong? It looks like a normal zombie to me.
As for the melon seeds, no problem - it is my good fortune and gift to the world of Arduum.
Avernite I met for the second time a nasty bug! The first time was in single player mode. A normal zombie that I wasn't able to punch, it was like a ghost.
Interesting...I'm not sure what would be causing that. Has anyone else encountered this?
Wights look quite a bit different than zombies so there shouldn't be any confusion between the two.
I was thinking the other day about the issue of a player count cap on the world - I think there should be one. That is,something like double the number of players we have now should be the limit. I think that this will keep a strong community spirit as people will all still know each other. Otherwise, spawn will become a desolate place and people will have to travel days and days just to find a spot to call their own. I know that as the world is player funded that less players will make that harder to work, but I hope that it is not a problem and that a monthly funding drive to get some donations would need to be organized. $5 is not a lot but I know it is for some people.
In other world news Nemekitsu has made a very nice compact base with a built in mob grinder, and has managed to find an elusive carrot! Our food choices continue to improve, which is great. I wonder who will find the first onion, or potato?
Again with the chocolate...I'm gonna have to add diabetes to this game
Watching its inhabitants' every moves...
He is Cheese Man!
When the citizens are offline, he leaps into action!
Filling the good little settlers' chests with cheese!
And then vanishes into the night...
That's hilarious!
Cobblefort looks huge. It might take me a whole day just to work out how to get in.
It's actually a simple sprint jump onto some cobble slabs

Also - is the Wiki dead?

It's a zombie but ghost-white and herobrine-like eyes

The first potato was lost to blight due to poor farm maintenance at Cobblefort.
I know I can't really talk, as I lost my first Melon seeds, but didn't you have some bonemeal to instantly make more?
I wasn't online when it became blighted but yea we probably had bonemeal
