I'm having an interesting problem isolating error messages in my modding. With the latest update, as i'm pretty sure a few people have noticed, when Minecraft gets an error it no longer displays the error window and instead just closes down black screen. I saw the cmd prompt command to run it through the console window in the hope that that would help isolate the message, but for whatever reason it is running the game using the minecraft.java setup BEFORE I added the latest mod that broke it, meaning I don't get to see what the added mod was having troubles with.
Any idea why this could be happening?
EDIT: Scratch that, I figured it out. I was making backups of the minecraft.java in the same bin folder as the regular minecraft.java, and it was prioritizing the backup over the current version for whatever reason.
So here's the scenario, I'm running four mods, the newest industrial mod, the dynamic lighting mod, mod loader and the more id's mod. When I installed the dynamic lighting mod, I was on peaceful mode. So I go in game and test out the mod while still in peaceful mode for about 10 minutes or so, then I change it back to normal difficulty, and after about 10 seconds It crashes without a report. I try again and the same thing happens, still on normal. Then again and I try to change it back to peaceful within the 10 seconds. same thing. So I run it through Command Prompt to get a report, and heres the message:
"java.lang.ArrayIndexOutOfBoundsExeption -6
at dt.l<World.java:1900>
at dt.k<World.java:1838>
at net.minecraft.client.Minecraft.j<Minecraft.java:1196>
at net.minecraft.client.Minecraft.run<Minecraft.java:460>
at java.lang.Thread.run<Unknown Source>
Stopping!
That website included in the message. Same message every time, and there isn't really any pattern of something I'm doing that would cause this :/
Edit: I changed the difficulty to normal before heading in game and turned all sounds off, and lasted maybe 5 seconds more still getting almost the same message except the "OutOfBoundsException" line changed from -6 to -7 .
Hey, I was using the airship mod successfully, but then I tried to also add in the steamboat mod (I am using the 32x steampunk texture pack in case you were wondering). Since the steamboat mod required a different install process I tried to follow someone elses tutorial (someone everyone seemed to revere for some reason) that I have since lost the page to. The install required me to use a terminal and several of the commands I was told to do didn't seem to work and I know I probably should've stopped, but I kept going anyways. The steamboat mod didn't work and now the airship one is broken. I have re-installed the airship mod several times with no success. I'm currently using macmodder and the only other thing I've done to mess around with minecraft is texture packs that have all worked fine. Minecraft still works perfectly fine I just really want to be able to use airships again. Can anyone help me out here?
:/ sadly I get the black screen. I've looked for a fix elsewhere, without much luck...

Do you have any mods?
Did you pirate the game?
Why did you use the CMD instead of the normal launcher?
That last one is just asking, because I'm curious to know.

Here's a quick video tutorial I made on how to get your crash report. I made it because people like me aren't so computer savvy, so seeing it done is sometimes easier. You can include in the OP if you desire.
Thanks for explaining it in detail, it makes it easier for everyone involved to work together to resolve issues.

Hey, great video! That should definitely help out. Thanks for doing that.
Ah, this is a really evil error. I had it once, too.
Clean your bin folder. it will take the first jar-file called "minecraft" or containing "minecraft". For example it could take your "minecraft vanilla.jar" instead of the actual "minecraft.jar".
That's the reason i store my backup-jars in a seperate folder ^^
This worked for me. Thanks Alblaka! Love your mod!

Hey, great video! That should definitely help out. Thanks for doing that.
Just delete the version file in your bin folder.
When I enter this:
into my 'Run' prompt, it runs Minecraft 1.3.01 somehow, despite the fact that I've updated, and that 1.4 runs when I run Minecraft normally!
Have I missed something extremely obvious? Thanks in advance.
This worked for me. Thanks Alblaka! Love your mod!
Thank you! =:happy.gif:=
