Yup, just went through a HELL lots if worlds creating...
And its food. Ive heard you can keep getting seeds to last you the night but its pretty hunger wasting if you ask me. Time wasting too.
Soooo.... Any tips?
This mod definitely forces you to consider your actions and to make plans for every day, week even.
Beld and I have been playing co-op over LAN and this has definitely helped, allowing us to split our efforts and get more done. Starting in the desert gave us a good start but after depleting the local animals we travelled several days to the border of plains and extreme hills. Here we have set up a sandstone house surrounded by cactus which is working well, plus a couple of piston traps for good measure.
Here is our current abode, not the most attractive but generously sized. The large sugar cane field keeps us from needing much actual food so long as we keep on top of our hunger. We have all vegetables in the field except for watermelon which we are yet to find. We also intend to get some jungle trees for cocoa so we can make chocolate. The big glassed off area is the latest addition for animals, it took a bit of trial an error to get something that wouldn't get stolen by endermen, climbed by spiders or allow spawning ontop. On the left of the picture is a hole we are luring all creepers into, hopefully they might uncover some useful ore one day.
The current state of the inside of the house. Originally comprised of 6 separate rooms I have since knocked through the walls. The back section kept our horse safe until the glass field was finished. Barely visible in the back right corner is our pride and joy, our first copper anvil. Now we just need a heap of copper to make sets of repairable armour, weapons and tools.

Yes! just made a new tree home, it only fits with me and is unreachable by skeletons and zombies or any other mob except wood spiders except im on extreme hills
It basically is a 1x1 room for me that is covered in the front with sand to prevent monsters. I built a staircase out of sand but at the end of it i made it 2 blocks high making it impossible to reach.
By the way, any good idea on how to get food fast?
Seeds are the easiest get, and if you have access to wood then dandelions for salads are also readily accessible. Salads have minimal saturation unlike meat which when cooked is great. In extreme hills you should have some animals, although you will be jumping around a lot to get to them.
If you have water nearby fishing is definitely a great renewable option. Make yourself a defensive position by the water where you can fish uninterrupted by monsters.
Definitely make the most of whatever meat you do get by spacing out its consumption as much as possible with seeds or sugar. You can load up on 6 of these when your hunger bar is wiggling to give you a bunch of time before you need to eat again.
My safehouse got attacked by about 15 zombies last night, I think they followed me back when returning from a sand quarry as the sun was setting. I made the mistake of letting them past my first piston trap (which pushes them into a hole to kill for xp later) so that I could crush them with my second piston trap which is right against the wooden door. Unfortunately they managed to break the door down before dying from suffocation.
I retreated (after dying a couple of times) into the stable area inside the house which I still hadn't pulled down, it essentially cuts the room in half with a wooden fence and gates. As soon as I was behind this the zombies stopped coming for me. This could be a useful defensive option for people just starting out or to augment a cactus barrier.
Next time I won't make the mistake of letting anything past a line of defence. Also, maybe I should build a panic room hehe.
Played for 3 real-life days, lots of rage-quits. About 20 games total.
On my next to last game I finally lasted 3 days instead of only 2. I lasted thqt long by making my pillbox on a treetop. But I discovered about Wood Spiders being poisonous and that all mobs can see you through the leaves at the elevation under my feet and the Wood Spiders can hit you through the leaves too. So I dropped that tactic.
Then my best so far: this last game where I lasted 6 days, using a cactus pillbox, which did wonderful job on spiders. I got strings easily. On the 6th night I discovered that:
#1 - My cactus pillbox wasn't such a good protection after all. Zombies can destroy cactus before being killed by it.
#2 - Making your pillbox near water or trees means skeletons can probably shoot at you in the morning.
#3 - Making your pillbox with higher ground around means mobs can see you and aggro you.
#4 - Eating sugar in the night makes noise, zombies will aggro you.
EDIT: This last one is false. Zombie start to "dig" no matter what you do, by being "near" you. So yeah, a pillbox means there are only 2 blocks between you and the zombie, so they start to dig in. I think you need something like 6 blocks or something.
I had: 2 sticks, 4 gravel, 6 strings, 1 raw lamb chops, 1 red mushroom, 4 sugar, 2 raw chickens, 1 bow (5 durability), 6 arrows, 2 dirt, 13 sand, 13 cactus, and 1 copper nugget. Not a lot of progress in 6 days.
Next game, I'm going to use the following tactics:
- Use the "creeper explosion to get sticks" or kill animals trick as much as possible. I'll try to test if they can blast gravel to get flint too.
- Use small caves not a pillbox in open ground.
- Concentrate less on grass and more on reeds. Try to remember landmarks better. Follow rivers !
- Less time and efforts wasted on animals unless I can really "trap" them to prevent them from fleeing.

Snowing conditions don't affect your hunger the way standing in rain does (x2 hunger rate).
day 2 is coming... The problem is that monsters will try to hide in the shade of my little tree. Especially if skeletons attack, in fact, i AM already being attacked by a skeleton. So if i come out of my tree, that skeleton with a bow will try to shoot me >.>

Ok, that is actually one of my problems, i chase after an animal and waste all my hunger then get its meat to replenish some. Though right now i can actually depend on the jungle that is very close to me. I'd use it for making chocolate.

day 5, chop-chop-choppin woods with my flint axe! soo much achiements, my first ingot (both silver and copper), found a big jungle after venturing through snow plains, fought my first wight, ah, life is great here.
After installing the mod and watching some videos series about this mod, I'm now gonna try this mod myself. I'll be posting some screenshots of my progress as I try to plan and consider my moves.
I started my first day, collecting food rather than destroying leaves, I've collected food as much as many as I can carry for the next day. Afterwards, I've searched for a gravel source, collecting some raw meat on the way. I've stumbled upon some hills with several caves and some awesome mountains, probably extreme hills, luckily, I've spotted some good amount of gravel source aswell as some lone trees in the hills. I've planned my next move would be checking my surroundings as I memorized some locations that are essentially useful to me, such as a forest just south of the extreme hills, aswell as the caves to be a pin point extraction of minerals. Along the way, I've took noticed some creepers on my targeted gravel to be dig out, I've took advantage of the creepers to harvest the gravel, aswell as get some dirt to ready my construction materials for my temporary shelter for the next day. It was dawn, without haste I've planned my shelter would be on a lone tree, making sure it would be secured from the wood spiders, I've planned the shelter perfect for the next day. And so, I waited for the next day, I've already devised my objectives for the next day...
Objectives for the next day:
-Acquire some sticks. -Get atleast one flint -Craft a flint hatchet -Acquire some logs -Construct a workbench
And so those are my key objectives to progress further on.
Good job! All those steaks will keep you going for a while. Your pillbox has some serious altitude...is that on a natural formation or did you build it up yourself?

I built it myself, I've planned what tree I will place my pillbox structure on, designing it properly and efficient.
I chose a lone tree on a edge of a hill so that I would be completely safe from spiders.

death by spiders... damn sky raining spiders. uh, avernite, i saw jockeys more than i have ever did. is that one of the tweaks? being chased by like 5 jockeys sure are frustrating.
lol cactus pillboxes rocks! just need a stick to whack them off before it breaks..

The frequency of skeleton-mounted spiders is unmodified. Seeing 5 at once is a rare treat. Try too get a screenshot the next time it happens
After painstakingly lighting up a mining complex and barricading remaining dark areas to prevent enemies spawning or reaching us, Beld encountered three hellhounds. Knowing their speed and ability to fit through 1x1 gaps he stood his ground with his enchanted silver sword and set of full armour. He managed to take one down before the remaining two set him on fire and finished him off, wiping out 22 levels of blood sweat and tears.
It raises the question, where did they come from? We checked out the area and the lighting and barricades are intact. Do hellhounds spawn from lava or something else we haven't planned for?

Hellhounds are a bit unusual in that they have aspects of both animals and mobs. I'll take a look at their spawning rules. It's possible that they're being allowed to spawn in lit areas at the moment.
Edit: My condolences on Beld's unfortunate albeit heroic demise.
If you fix it I might just restart on the same map in order to play it correctly.
Hmm, if your reason is to replay to be more fair, then I suggest a totally new map. "Preexisting" knowledge of a map often makes a second run at it much easier.
... killing chickens that I come across since they are the easiest to kill if you Hworang air combo them. This is in my opinion an essential skill to master.
Mob despawning works a bit differently with this mod. Once a mob sees or attacks you then it won't despawn for a long time. A strategy you can try is to lure the mobs away from your dropped items and then circle around to grab them. Your ability to fight mobs is very limited in the beginning.
Just how long is that, then ? 5 minutes despawn is already half of the day so that is already harsh. If the mob that just killed you is sitting on top of your items, and its despawn time is say 2o minutes, then it mans you lose your stuff, right ?
I tried luring a wood spider away. Those critters move FAST. Only sprinting seem to be able to put some distance between you and them, even then this costs nearly your entire hunger points. I tried making a walking not running circle 200 blocks in diameter and still the wood spider managed to come back to me anyway.
At least l learned that a circle is not the best path to flee, since the aggroed mob gets some kind of free bonus by pursuing you along a circle that is a bit smaller than your own. You have to flee in a straight line, then when the mob drops the pursuit, you come back by first move sideways out of the mob's aggroing range.
And its food. Ive heard you can keep getting seeds to last you the night but its pretty hunger wasting if you ask me. Time wasting too.
