My brother and I are playing on LAN, and boy is it difficult.
We spawned in a swamp next to a desert. Gathered seeds and sugar cane the whole day. We kinda forgot about a safe haven, and ended up making panic pillboxes out of cactus from the desert. My brother died panicking and running into the cactus walls... Oh boy. We spent two days and nights using this tactic, but it was obvious it wasn't going to work for long.
The next day, as we were searching for more food, my brother found a witch hut. Remembering what I've heard about witches, I told him to be careful. Luckily, the witch had fallen into a hole and couldn't reach us. Huzzah! A safe home! We spent about a weeks or less worth of time in that hut. We took planks to make a workbench and two sets of bowls, we cannibalized the chest, and created a clay furnace. Using sticks we'd found during the day, we cooked up 5 entire porkchops! How exciting! Not only that, but I found the location of a cow, and accumulated two pieces of cheese during our time in the hut. Sadly, after about a week, we were coming back with less and less food, and we had to move or we would starve.
Early one morning, we packed up all our things and headed into the neighboring taiga biome. Within a day, we found a suitable hole in the ground, literally. It was perfect to block off with dirt, and we set up shop there. The local area was rich in seeds, milking cows, and dandelions for salads. We spent our nights digging through gravel, and only ate seeds and salads to grow our cheese and meat stores for harder times. We're trying to save the cooked meat and cheese for when we need them most.
Really enjoying the mod so far, blow away by the way it recreates minecraft. Will most certainly be posting updates as they come.
PS: Are there any public servers running this mod?
I have just gotten my first Copper Pick and wanted to drag about it on the internet. My seed was amazing I started with cows, grass, flowers, sugar cane, a few trees, and mountains of gravel. In fact there is so much food that you don't need to kill any cows wait until you have bowls too make cheese. You also shouldn't eat the sugar instead plant them and wait for them to grow. There is also Iron under some gravel just behind you at spawn, which means you as soon as you get copper you can get an Iron Pick
I BEAT YOU AVERNITE!
I just died at day 16 to an ambush of ghouls while i was mining the last piece of the 27 copper nuggets in a pit. Instant rage quit, turns out the next world I managed to get a copper pickaxe on night to DAY 7!
And the seed ofc: 8643385367518957770
Seems like i might get mithril etc from now on (highest is iron atm).
(hint to newcomers, cliffs are excellent base spots while not having a farm)

somehow my previous save got corrupted and i lost the world, decided to make a new one
nice start, an extreme hills biome with a large body of water (i'll set up a base in the middle later) around it. Plus, the amount of gravels present made it possible to acquire my hatchet in day 2, the first log is obviously for craft tables, and three planks for bowls..
any idea for the other 5 remaining planks? there's sheeps around and some pumpkins so i think i can create myself a decent closed shelter with pumpkin roofs and a bed, thoughts?
Yes, the faster you can create a bed, the better it is, because you can pass the awfully long nights where it is impossible to do anything. It will also allow you to regenerate faster
Well... about that...
I flubbed and 'accidentally' deleted my save... but i'll take your advice!
Also, do you have a great early base design that doesnt involve trees and is applicable in areas with large water bodies?
If you have a large area of water near to where you want to settle, just find a spot far enough from any land but where water is not too deep (not more than 5 if possible), make a 1x1 sand pillar from the bottom, then double it from the top, just letting blocks slide from the first pillar. Make the second pillar two blocks higher than water level. Then jump to put a non-falling block on top of the second (tallest) pillar (wool is great but clay is good too if no sheep is available where you are). You just have now to break the two blocks under the wool and you have a minimalistic rain-proof and secure spot to break gravel during the night.
Later you can expand it a bit with clay on the sides to put an oven then a chest if needed.
Thanks! how far exactly from land do i have to be to avoid detection?
Also i tried one thing using sugarcanes underwater to create airpockets but seemingly i have problem with spiders wandering around the water! Any ideas how to deal with them upon getting out of the water?
One key feature when you have this setting is LILIPADS
If you have a swamp not too far, grab a ton of them and make little roads over water : avoids a lot of hunger-inducing efforts to get in and out of your shelter, and it solves your other problem (getting out of the lake at morning without attacks)
...i'm a dumbass.. i had like 4 of them in my inventory lol
thanks! and i guess it will be easier too once i grabbed some non falling blocks for roof!
can i make bricks with the clay oven?
EDIT : Managed to gather everything i needed to catch up with my last world, took me 3 days to get flint and 2 more to finaly grab the final stick and craft the hatchet..
is there any other use for the bowls besides salads and cheese for earlier stage of playthrough?
EDIT 2 : Sticks and bones now breaks? I added some murder holes to my water fort because the undead seems not to be able to drown (heh, they're dead what do i expect) and the stick breaks after like 4 hits? is there a good alternative or do i really need to think about my choices thoroughly?
2) use for bowl ? shrooms ! shrooms (mainly brown ones) grow like crazy compared to many other resources, it's an excellent food source, even before you can make mycelium
You have a good tips for mushroom farms? currently have one brown shroom and located a swamp to grab the red ones, though it is a loong and risky way there, too many skeletons in the shades of the cliff overhanging the way there
also just located some cows, which will yield me cheese, which is nice
EDIT : Here comes what i hate the most, RAINS. Tho i havent noticed any mobs spawning at all, is this changed? i seen no hostile mobs at all during this rain, which may be great since i need to grab more gravels to get more woods
EDIT 2 : I didnt post too much, didnt i? Sorry!
I think i might have the worst luck, just like half a day after the rain ceases, it started to rain again, and not to mention that i ran out of seeds to keep hunger at bay. and it really sucks! good thing i managed to stock some dandelions and milked a cow for its cheese. though on my journey i managed to locate a swamp again with more livestocks and sugarcanes! i think it is best to leave them be for now as i dont want monsters to spawn and kill them...
Also, what can you burn in a clay oven for fuels? i only know sticks, tools, manure, saplings , and planks and etc but is there more to it?
EDIT 3 : It's now the third rain this week and oh my god am i mad, it's like the RNG just glanced at me and decided "F*** this guy in particular"
It's now day 8 and progress is really really slow due to 4 days lost to the rains... ugh

This is ridiculous! Yet another rainy day! but i was glad to figure that somehow rainy days doesnt make mobs spawn so i can asually go out shelter to shelter and grab things i want to grab, though the impact to the need of food intake is quite high
BUT, now it is day 12 and i can say i made a good progress, managed to get my first copper ingot and now that i have an axe, i can easily grind for more flints to make more axes and by then, wood-based shelters will be affordable enough for me to actually have a nice abode to live in!
By now what i really need to do is to kill some spiders (i hope i can get cactuses to make this easier) or find another sheep to finally have a bed on my own and finally can be less tense because now i can set my spawn point! the biome im in is full of grasses so seeds isnt a problem and it is surprisingly packed with lots of goods!
a question though, can berry bushes be grown somewhere else? it would be a nice addition once i'm starting to set up my own permanent shelter!
Yet another question : based on my current resources and gears, what do you guys think should i consider making? currently am planning to get more woods so i can block out any certain cave with planks and crafting table to prevent mobs from getting in, and to make myself a bow and more clubs n shovels along with doors for some trap designs i've been thinking of, what else is probably there to be?

i still dont get the amount of rains i get it's like really slowing down my progress
but still, im thinking of using overviewer to retrace to my spawn to see around things i might have missed or need to take note on, but cant seem to make it render my 1.6.4 world
Okey, back ago I published a post where I managed to get a pickaxe way early, here I got some more pictures later. First copper pickaxe at night to day 7, and later a mithril pickaxe at day 39!! I find my progress way slower than what I can manage, though its pretty good compared to what I've observed at this forum.
Some key points so far: 0 deaths, 1 crop wipeout, I obtanied onions and potatoes, 4 mithril and 130+ other metals total, cow and chicken farm up-and running, 1 cave I'm depleting and a y-layer 12 mine started.
At this point im wasting resources building and fortifying a better-looking base, its time consuming and kind of overbearing. I find myself quite confident with good progress, but I lack knowledge at building efficent farms. Can anyone tell me why the sugar canes I've placed near my seed-farm does'nt grow ...
Question: I just wasted 2 gold apples trying to tame a horse, can I keep feeding the same horse or does the "taming-progress" resets? I believe the mechanism is set to a random number between 1 and 99 and it should reach 100 before its tamed.
I made it to my copper pickaxe today. I've already scouted out like 3 different copper deposits and a coal deposit. I even spotted a small iron vein to be gathered later on. I'm planning to garner a stack or so of torches and venture into a cave to mine some copper and iron. I also plan on constructing a sandstone house and abandoning my cave. I found a jungle temple that I will be looting soon. I'm thinking I may attempt to capture two cows to milk but I only wish to do so once I have a sustainable food supply to feed them and keep them healthy
Wow, it sounds like you are off to a great start! Remember to build a war hammer instead of a second pick since they are so much better. Also when you start your first farm make it bigger than you think it should be.
I hope your journey in MITE is successful, also you should post this on the main Mire topic here.
Abusing the fact that mobs can't go against water currents, i decided to dig some "channels" in an existing water hole in hope mobs will be stuck there and pray that they didnt enter the water hole from the one step i left for the sake of my entrance and exit, and it's working!
alas, it was just day 3 of the world and it's raining already! and i cant get out because a spider is on top of my head!
I am planning not to give up on this world like i did on my last worlds and try to survive
The new updates seems intimidating, though (old-timer here, since the times when pillboxes still work)
Played a little bit in 2014, gunna give this a shot again. Looks like it's been updated quite a bit!
I may post pictures as a progress report.

Don't worry, we grabbed plenty of slime while we were there.
About the servers, my multiplayer comes up with nothing. Is there an IP I can find?

Is that so (Ill tell ya if I manage to find even more)
About the horses, no not 100, theoretically there may be required to use 100 apples, but no
Hmm Im doing branch mining for kinda fast iron ores when I dont feel like going into dangerous depts.
It's strictly for 1.6.4.

I've been playing in a sever my family is doing for ourselves, and I'm walling off my base, in case of enemy raids.
