I was thinking about making a poll, but I dont feel like a Tekkit vs FTB slugfest. Those are both good platforms with alot of good mods, but really, it doesnt matter what PLATFORM you use, the mods are what contain the amazing content, and if I knew how to make my own launcher, I would. I have never used a plain modpack, I have tried, but i ALWAYS end up taking mods out or putting others in. I am hoping alot of people do this and I want to hear what everyone has to say. And I don't mean stuff like Modular Power Suits is AWESOME or Thermal Expansion is the BEST EVER PERIOD. I wanna know about some mods I have never heard of and why they work well together in your modpack.
For instance, I have TimeScaler making my MC days longer, which lets me explore Biomes O' Plenty easier, and for longer. I feel like I can explore further without bringing a bed and half my supplies with me just in case I dont make it back before night, BUT even if I dont, I have the Sleeping Bag mod in my Backpack mod so if I sleep it wont reset my spawn. Whilst exploring, BOP's rich environment, there's many new flowers which look great with the Blocks 3D mod, which Ars Magica's Trama Root looks really cool in 3D as well. These new Biomes are filled with new threats from Grimiore of Gaia mobs and Better Dungeon too, both set up to spawn just how I want them to with Custom Mob Spawning. To combat all these new threats and dangerous terrain, I can hire a guard from Minecraft Comes Alive or spawn an ally from MineBattles, I also have new traps and weapons from Balkon's Weapon Mod and Trapcraft or maybe a custom sword from Tinkers Construct or some of the loot from GoG or Better Dungeons could help. I have waaaay too many to keep going, but you get the idea.
I feel like all my mods balance each other out and compliment each other well. Maybe your server or SSP game is something like Call of Duty with GunCus and Flans Mods. Maybe its exteme survival and exploration style with Hunger Mod and HarvestCraft with Iguana Tweaks. I am just taking a break and want to get some ideas. Both of the popular launchers I mentioned offer custom modpack support, but alot of those I look through seem like repeats of the popular ones like Unleashed, just with one or two more mods. I want to hear somehting really unique, even if its something small, like Grim's Slingshot mod, I love that thing, its not much cheaper and is certainly weaker than a bow, but hey, who has a million feathers on day 1 ? ...and not all mods have to have 500 new blocks to be cool. Another favorite of mine doesnt add any blocks, its InGameInfo and Iove it too...So what do YOU guys love ?
This post is like the 'Great Wall of Texts'
Try cleaning it up a little, more people will reply.
Anyway, back on topic. I use my own custom modpack, tailored to my needs.
Yes it's time consuming putting it together, but I get EXACTLY what I want, how I want it.
personal modpack as well but its loosely based on what the people use of the FC server by the FC people with my own personal tastes... I do however lack 1 mod... because its incompatible with the current MC build... dem maids
and by loosely based because I dump IC2-ex on the dump hole and replaced it with Mekanism and Atomic Science with Minechem
added mDiyo's version of growthcraft because gwafu's computer bonked
and a Japanese mod called Bamboo (its mostly an esthetics mod which most Japanese mod authors do surprisingly) and on 1.7 hopefully little maid mobs ON FORGE! i did once add tofucraft for the lulz... but only for the sake of lulz
Yeah I realized I had gone off on a rant, but Im not sure how to clean it up now. I want to learne to use Minetweaker or just flat out learn Java so i can really get things how I want them... What is Tofucraft Algester ? and how do you navigate the Japanese sight ? I have thought about looking at their mods but I wasnt sure how to translate not only the page, but the mods themselves...

tofucraft name implies adds soybean elements to your game, as well as a dimension made out of it and soy milk... then there's the add on for it called tofu factory which adds tofu based weapons... or... err... tofu ALLOY?! dont ask me... its also adding support to TiCon smeltery, BC, Thaumcraft and gregtech but not IC2 it seems as for the Japanese forums themselves I understand to a degree but I never speak well in Japanese nor do I speak quite well in my native and foreign languages... honestly.
example of Japanese mods found here are quite few if you exclude rei's minimap
Hamster mod, Touhou Alice Doll mod, Little Maid mob and Ugocraft are the few mods that was and is halfly still Japanese, Hamster mod has been ported here already http://forum.minecraftuser.jp/viewforum.php?f=13&sid=b578ba23aa9a906b0766e43b2caab7e7
this is their mod forums if your not aware due to LMM though your likely to see active dated mods
little maid looks pretty sweet, I love having a USEFUL buddy in SSP, but Im on 1.6.4 Do you know if there are any other mods that use MMMLib ? This is the coolest "follower" mod I have ever seen though. She can do SO much stuff, and random snowball fights ? Wow. see I had never heard of this that I remember. I wonder what else is out there...

LMMLib huh... you have no idea how Japanese have giant support for your little maids... so much so it can be called a mod pack in its own right a lot of maid plugins will automatically need little maid mob sadly they are all working only on 1.6.2 and according to MMM he will be updating to 1.7 once 1.7 forge rolls out since Risugami may have stopped working on modloader
Personally I play my own Private Modpacks, and some FTB. I have this one modpack that trys to make Minecraft harder and more Realistic that i'm working in. Results are good so far. It is currently private though.
Momnop: How does RotaryCraft run on a server ? It killed my computer after I got a decent setup going, I guess it was all the detailed models, idk. I like it though. I'm also curious to hear what you have in your private one to make it more of a challenge. I am trying to do something like that, sort of, adding new mobs and whatnot. I want to use Minetweaker to make it so that ingots of any kind can only be made through the smeltery in Tinker's construct and no vanilla stone tools or wood tools can be crafted. That leaves a length in the beginning where I am stuck with stuff like cardboard armor/tools or mud tools/armor until I set up all of Tinker's tables and get some patterns. It makes things more interesting, especially when I have hostile mobs spawning in the daytime and only start with 5 hearts until I accumulate a decent amount of XP. And Algester, thanks for giving me incentive to use Google Translator. lol
Well, as far as I can tell RotaryCraft runs the same way as on a Client, you just stick it in the mods folder. Most of my modpacks don't include it though...
As for your problem with the setup, some mods don't enjoy working together. Such as the Block 3D mod with Optifine, which have been shown to be incompatible with each other.
As for your ideas with TC, I think that would be a great idea. It would make things much harder. I'm not sure how you would get Molten Iron without getting Iron First. Excuse me, forgot that Iron Ore is what is used to get Molten Iron. But you could possibly remove the Iron Smelting Recipe using the Recipe Remover mod and find your own workaround.
As well as your idea for some mods that add new mobs, I need to add one of those to the pack mentioned below. It would really improve the experience.
My newest public modpack is actually in a closed beta right now, and I need testers for it. Feel free to check it out here: Here
It was going to be the private pack that I mentioned before, then I changed my mind. Not all mods will be included in the public release...
But I hope to have MOST mods in the pack when a Open Release version comes about.
I really like everything on the ATLauncher, the modpacks are very large, and any mod that the modders don't want to be included in modpacks are included, but you have to download them seperately! I don't know how to add mods, but their packs have at least 150 mods each. One pack has 203. Another only has 5 required mods, and the rest you get to choose! These packs are everything from a 1.2.5 pack with the OPness of EE2 to one with mods that just make it hard.
