Yesterday, I wanted to play Minecraft on the 1.6.1 version, but I can't really fully enjoy it without installing some basic mods (ModLoader, OptiFine and TMI). I watched a video on how to install the mods, and I did everything I should have in order:
1 - I went to C:\Users\Herp-a-Derp\AppData\Roaming\.minecraft\versions\;
2 - I created a new folder and named it 'SemiVanillaPack';
3 - I copied/pasted the 1.6.1.jar and the 1.6.1.Jason 1.6.1.json into the SemiVanillaPack folder;
4 - I renamed the files into SemiVanillaPack.jar and SemiVanillaPack.json;
5 - I edited the .json file by changing the ID from 1.6.1 to SemiVanillaPack;
6 - I deleted META-INF;
7 - I dragged the ModLoader files into the .jar file;
8 - I dragged the Too Many Items files into the .jar file;
9 - I saved everything;
10 - I opened the Launcher and created a new profile.
Now I'm supposed to be able to switch to my custom version, but my modded version doesn't show up, like if Minecraft was saying "No, you're not playing today. Nah."
Did I foget something? Or am I just unlucky? And before saying I forgot to install OptiFine, I want to say that I'm waiting for the full version.
you could of just clicked on "new profile" in first place without wasting your time on doing it all manually
Well, if I want a modded Minecraft.jar, I have to do it manually first. And I tried to edit my profile to choose my modded version, but it's not in the list. That's what I'm talking about.
Well, I (somehow) managed to make it show up by doing it all over again. It worked well... Not sure if it'll happen for you guys... Maybe it has something to do with the amount of letters and symbols? Because it only worked when I named my .jar and .json files 'Usual' instead of 'SemiVanillaPack'.
Same exact issue, I've tried numerous different things to fix it, absolutely nothing is changing. If someone figures out the issue, a video explaining would be much appreciated.
The renaming the folder to usual thing worked with me. But, I think it's just because I had restarted my minecraft launcher. Just make sure everything has the same caps all throughout.
jeez....search for Direwolf20 on youtube, page thru his videos, he has a video on How to Make Multiple Instances or Profiles with the new launcher.
very helpful.
You may want to check the id of your .json file again. The quotation marks around the id matter. If the quotation marks are curved inwards the id won't be picked up. The quotation marks must be straight up and down.
"test" vs “test”
The left one works whereas the right one won't work.

Ok, I just barely did this, and it worked for me.
Step 1: Put the .jar of the version you are modding into a folder.
Step 2: Rename the version folder.
Step 3: Put your files in the .jar
Step 4: Delete meta-inf
Step 5: Rename the .jar to the same name as the folder
Step 6: Copy the .json of the version you are modding into your version folder
Step 7: Rename the .json to the same name as the folder and the .jar
Step 8: Inside the .json, on the second line it will say "id": "version name here", In the place of "version name here" put the name you used for all previous steps.
I found the fix for the problem, using notepad open your JSON and change the id to what you renamed your version to.... as it might say its still "1.7.2" instead of you having its as for example " Expansion".
I don't know if this is still a problem, but try naming all the files a version that doesn't exist (in numbers and periods), like 2.1.4 or whatever you feel comfortable with. I haven't tried it yet but perhaps it will work.
Edit: Naming my files 2.1.5 worked and I was able to launch my mods! Just be sure to rename the id in the JSON file as well.

I hoped this solves a lot of problems and I might start a new thread on this.

I've never understood house parties.
Houses can't move... unless they are like the house in Monster House.
But then they wouldn't be parties.
They would be the Monster Mash.

Thank you.
It's not cracked.

This seems very unlikely to be the case, though.

I named it Usaul but it didn't work
I have tried every solution posted in this topic and nothing works
very helpful.
So if your jar is called "Client.jar", the folder should be named "Client".

This Help Thanks!!! I can finally install Mods
The beginning should look like this:
{
"id": "name",
"time": "XXXX-XX-XXXXX:XX:XX-XX:XX",
"releaseTime": "XXXX-XX-XXXXX:XX:XX-XX:XX",
"type": "release",
"minecraftArguments": "--username ${auth_player_name} --version ${version_name} --gameDir ${game_directory} --assetsDir ${game_assets} --uuid ${auth_uuid} --accessToken ${auth_access_token}",
"libraries": [
{
The "id" for this client is "name" but my folder and files are "Name."
So within the folder "Name" I have "Name.jar" and "Name.json"
The client's id is "name"
To get the client to work I changed the id to "Name"
Now within my "Name" folder I have "Name.jar" and "Name.json"
With the client's id changed to "Name"
{
"id": "Name",
"time": "XXXX-XX-XXXXX:XX:XX-XX:XX",
"releaseTime": "XXXX-XX-XXXXX:XX:XX-XX:XX",
"type": "release",
"minecraftArguments": "--username ${auth_player_name} --version ${version_name} --gameDir ${game_directory} --assetsDir ${game_assets} --uuid ${auth_uuid} --accessToken ${auth_access_token}",
"libraries": [
{
