This new update came out in Minecraft, 1.6. It's been extremely problematic for me. I finally figured out how to install mods with 1.6, well, one way. I used Mcpatcher and I got some multiplayer compatible mods working. But now every time I restart the 1.6 launcher, I have to re-patch McPatcher, and half the time it's not patched and some mods aren't working. Could I get this straightened out please?
I would love to hear some solutions with this, as well.
I've heard most mods are supposed to go in the folder with your newly created game. (Copying the jar and json from 1.6.1 to your own folder, renaming them, then adding a mods folder in there). But not all mods go in there and go into a mods folder where it used to be (Rei's minimap went in that one).
But then I've heard another problem with the new system. If you change the default game directory in the profile (which I think Magic Launcher does if you try to switch games), then that totally messes up your mods and you probably have to start all over again.
I've yet to find something that offers actual directions on how to put mods in properly. I'm assuming this is also the reason why so many of the more major mod creators have not come up with upgrades yet, because they too are having the same problem as we are.
Hopefully this will all be resolved eventually. Maybe Mojang will offer some fixes to these problems they created in 1.6.2.
