Well, if you have a mod available in the short time between the update and now, you can still mod the jar, just not easily.
To do so, you can go to appdata\roaming\.minecraft, and then, instead of going to the "bin" folder, you have to go to the "version" folder.
You should see all of the versions that you have downloaded on the new launcher (i.e, 1.6.1, 1.5.2, etc.)
What you have to do is make a NEW folder, and name it anything you like, such as "Modded", or "yugewfkqegyvfqbvkyefve".
Then go into the "1.6.1" folder and copy all of the items inside. You should notice that there is a .jar in there.
Paste those items into the folder that you just created and rename them the same name as the folder.
Now open the file labeled as a .json (Modded.json, 1.6.1.json, etc) in Notepad, Notepad++ or any other text editor.
Then, next to the id, where it says "1.6.1", you replace that with the name of your folder.
Then you mod the .jar in your folder however you wanted to mod the minecraft.jar.
You open up your launcher, create a new profile, and under "version", there should be a version with the name of your modded folder.
You run that version, and you're done!
Hope this helps!
Oh god man, you are a lifesaver.
I run Minecraft on a really ty computer and wanted to use Optifine again with my game.
This was a really BIG help! Also, you may want to add that you have to delete the META.INF folder to be able to play without it crashing instantly.
Being the moron that I am, it takes me a good long while to figure out how to do things like modding. So, I'm probably screwing this up pretty badly, but here is my situation: (and please don't be that mean about it...)
So, I want to put ModLoader into my 1.6.2. Not 1, but 2, k? I'm following Risugami's directions presicely, and when I copy the ModLoader files into the .jar, 7-Zip tells me "Access is denied."
7Z is at its highest version. When I look at some of the files in there, they say:
Error: The system cannot allocate the required amount of memory
Is it 7Z? Is it my own stupidity? I have no idea, but can someone please help? I don't want to post this on the ModLoader page, because it looks so busy, and, well, I don't know. This is more of a question about modding >1.6., and I feel it belongs here more than there.
So, anyway, uh, HALP?
DISCLAIMER: No, I'm not 10. No, I'm not retarded. No, I'm not gay. No, I'm not a Brony. And no, I'm not anything else along those lines. Kthxbai.
