Hey hey hey hey buddy, did you know energy collectors aren't in ANY current modpack due to EE2 not being updated?
No?
Then get current info before spewing more crap the hole you call a mouth.
Hey look, MORE proof the FTB supporters in these threads have no idea what they're talking about! Keep it up guys, maybe someday you won't get corrected and some idiots will blindly believe you, or you could try learning anything!
Also yes, Tedium. It makes everything take longer for no benefit. At all.
Here's another difference for anyone reading. FTB fans tend to be full of on anything Technic related, not all, just most who for some reason don't know that it isn't on 1.2.5, isn't using old mods no longer updated, or other crap like what the guy above is spewing.
To any FTB supporters with a brain, if you avoid these threads to avoid the know lessthennothings, I don't blame you.
Hey, hey, whats with the fanboyism? Stop insulting something if you haven't tried it out yet (I've seen your other posts and its all about hating.)
To simplify, don't hate if you did'nt try it yet. Jeez.
Title says it all..
whats the difference? It seems FTB is more popular now.
I am not a fan of FTB because most of the time optifine does not work with it. Tekkit never haves problems with optifine.FTB allows you to create your own Client to share with friend and some people don't know how to install mods. With ftb you just need to put a code in and it installs the client. Tekkit does not do that.
Technic used to be shady, but they're legit now, as far as I'm aware. As one of the people who used to rage about it, I can honestly say this horse is pulp, from all the beatings it gets in this forum. This is an old bygone, and it has never stopped anyone from enjoying Tekkit.
My rage was almost entirely because the creator never asked for permission for EE. Not that he used it without permission, so much as the confusion that he didn't ask. The real kicker is I would've said yes. So in the end, I didn't have much to stay mad about.
I've got a different idea of modding these days. This community is about having fun and making Minecraft better for everyone, not just the people I like or agree with.
It's a waste of time trying to tell someone they're "wrong" for using something they like. (It doesn't even make sense.)
The superiority argument, though, that just cracks me up. The only thing a modpack does is put together a collection of mods people like. The collection of mods itself doesn't belong to the modpack creators, they belong to everyone (with some exceptions); so why does the name of the pack or its association have any relevance concerning its superiority?
The mods which comprise the modpack are what make it superior. Not the other way around.
(And even then, the superiority is purely subjective)
Also, the Technic platform beats everything. Don't like the regular modpacks? Then make your own, or choose from the hundreds of modpacks available on the Technic Platform.
I really hate this feature. Tons of people make mod packs for Technic without asking for permission from the mod authors, which is considered illegal in my opinion (and the opinion of a thousand other people).
Besides, the modpack authors are responsible for their own packs, not the Technic team. The packs also aren't made for Technic, but simply for use in the Technic Launcher.
And it's not "illegal". It may be "immoral" or "disrespectful", but definitely not "illegal".
Distributing copyrighted material without permission from the original author I'm pretty sure is illegal. I know very little about law, but I think that is true (yes optifine is copyrighted, check out the bottom of the page on the forum).
Edit: Quote from some smart guy:
You could not be more wrong. Very few countries require you to register things for copyright.
Let's just quote some Wikipedia here.... "In all countries where the Berne Convention standards apply, copyright is automatic, and need not be obtained through official registration with any government office."
Now some countries where this applies DO offer registration, but it is only a further protection in the case of disputes, not a requirement.
MC mods are protected no matter what people think... The $0 price tag doesn't change something's status as copyright work. The fact it requires Minecraft to run doesn't change anything either.
The authors of copyright works are free to impose almost any rules in their licensing, and requesting someone stop redistributing their work is pretty common (especially where the author is given little or no credit, and the re-distributor is claiming it's their work).
Copyright covers all derivative works, including adaptations. It could be argued that mods, as derivatives of minecraft actually fall under copyright protection of minecraft itself and not the modders. Minecraft terms can support this. It says you CAN mod, and distribute mods, and that tools and plugins are your property, but it does NOT say that mods are your property.
It COULD be argued that based on the law and the minecraft terms that anyone has as much right to distribute any mods as the modders have to make them in the first place. If you try to search specifically for the legality of copyright protection on mods, there is a lot of vague information and speculation, and a lot of information about the rights of the software being modded, but little in the way of real information on the rights of the modders themselves.
Unless I am mistaken, no case of modders copyrights on their works has actually gone to court, and until this happens and a judge has to rule on it, there is no right answer. People can use mods without permission and risk possibly being taken to court, but there is no guarantee they would be forced to stop distributing the mod.
Like, for example, http://www.technicpa...sinscraft.11115 , if you go to permissions and licensing, "Credits go to original mod authors" which is code words for "I don't have permission".
I don't know how new to internet forums you are, but this is how it is done in almost every other modding community out there. It's purely about having fun and then passing that fun onto others. "Credits to the authors" is for the most part acceptable, though not ideal . The minecraft modding scene is the oddity among game communities, not the norm.
(The post you linked re-directs back to all of the author's MCForum pages.)
Heres the overall answer...Make you own mod pack, add the mods YOU wand and leave out the ones you DON'T.
That's not quite as easy as you think, because of ID conflicts, bugs with compatibility and other problems. Most proper mod packs take care of this, which is one of the reasons why people love mod packs.

Tell me again how FTB has a public permissions list anywhere on their site.
Oh wait, they don't. Hypocrisy, much?
Besides, the Technic team could easily post their permissions, but they don't. Simply because they don't care at all. They just couldn't care less if some players think they're "illegal". Permissions is a thing between modpack makers and modders, it's nobody else's business (As much as people like CovertJaguar like to claim otherwise).
Tekkit is worthless because of how broken and retarded it is. Nuff said. Feed The Beast is recoded for max cross-compatability between mods. Also FTB is balanced because of GT.
How do you know more people use FTB? I'm pretty sure you don't have access to the login count of both the Technic Launcher and FTB.
Actually looking at the forums now, 644 online people are in the technic forum, while 970 online people are on the FTB forum. There are more total members in the technic forums, but you can point at the switchers who didn't close their accounts (not many people in general do stuff like that). Of course, it isn't right to base it off the forum (maybe the technic people are busy playing?), but it does show a statement.
And, edit, the technic forums have been around a lot longer I believe.
And looking at it again, to make sure, 483 online in technic forum, 771 online in FTB forum.
I used to use Tekkit, but then I found FTB. Not that I really 'used' it much. I mostly just played around with it, same with FTB. Kinda funny, I used to be able to sit through single player (before creative) and play, but now I find myself peeking at TMI and saying I'll only give myself ONE diamond pick at the beginning... wait... I need another...

1: FTB offers different modpacks just like the technic launcher. Judging one or the other based on just one modpack would be tremendously ignorant.
2: While Gregtech has some really awesome things all other mods lack (fusionreactors), the main part of it is just changing recipes so that any item takes infinitely longer to obtain and changes it's own recipes in this direction too if they notice that something does not take days of tedious work to obtain. This is not extending gameplay. This is arbitrarily extending the amount of boring samey effort the player has to put into things. AKA the complete opposite of fun for normal human beings. Without mystcraft you'd have to stripmine The entire area you have access to in the beginning just to get enough resources to build the machines that can fabricate the parts necessary for the machinery that can with a bit of luck give you the items needed to craft the machines that will generate electricity for you.
It's like if they thought that the fact the game was called "minecraft" meant that the only thing the gameplay could consist of was mining and more mining to be able to craft some things for no purpose whatsoever. Remember how in vanilla minecraft it took you almost till the endgame until you had a few diamonds? No? That's because the developers wanted you to be able to use fun items even before that. Simply working endlessly towards increasing the output number of a virtual machine in a virtual world is not fun, because it is not related to the questions a player in the world of minecraft faces:
How can i hide away for the night? How can i not starve? What does the terrain look over there? How can i reach far places fast? How do i not get killed by those monsters? What place should i call home? How can i overlook the things i have created? How can i control the stuff i have created so that it becomes a fully automated little world of its own? How can i craft a multitude of those amazing looking items with amazing functions? How do i mine faster with some of these items? How do i fit this massive 20 foot golden **** into the landscape? How do i gather enough materials to build said **** without destroying the landscape i'm trying to place it in? Gregtech answers very few of these directly, and only answers the 'How do i get more power?' question, with 'mine for frikkin days, and then stripmine everything down to bedrock'. Which is why i, despite the wonderful items and the added realism, hate gregtech so much.
3: Note how IC2 does the precise same thing by nerfing everything except for it's beloved nuclear reactors.Because if we're going to play a mod we're going to have to have fun PRECISELY the way the mod wants us to!
4: CompactSolars and AdvancedSolars completely negate these effects making FTB a lot LESS challenging than Tekkit. Which is why i play mostly that.
5: FTB user interface is bugged and mostly NOT GOOD. Technic user interface is slick and neat and works just fine.
6: This entire thing is just starting to look like people debating over which console is better, while forgetting that they all have frikkin PCs.
Let me explain: I started using the FTB direwolf20 pack (which is the most overseeable one imo) but noticed how awesome forcefields and automated turrets and other things were on another server i played on. So i proceed to open the FTB launcher, clicking 'Edit modpack' and adding everything i could from the technic laucher's modfiles.
It might take a couple of hours to determine what works with what, (which is why i am hanging out on here currently) but in the end, deflecting ICBMs with a forcefield while doing thaumaturgy in a mystraftworld will be well worth it.
1. Smart guy here.
2. Gregtech isn't that hard, you got nothin' to complain about there. Besides, the new Unleashed pack doesn't have GT anyway, so you can play that instead.
3. The mod author isn't making his mod to get money or be popular. He SHOULD be making it because he wants to play with it. I'm just saying.
4. First you say it's all hard because of gregtech, and now you say it's too easy because of compactsolars and advancedsolars? Which one is it? I'm kinda confused.
5. I haven't had any problems with it. Please show a reference.
6. The reason ICBM isn't in FTB is because that mod is mostly used for griefing, and not many people want that.

1. Common sense is not necessarily smartness.
2. Which is why i am doing precisely that.
3. Sure, that's perfectly valid. But nerfing things he himself already included, so people are FORCED to play it the way he likes to play it is just where things stop being fun for me.
4. It's not too easy. It's easier in that it only made me give up playing it for a month after realizing how many more resources i needed about 3 times. And not many many more, as would have been the case without those mods.
5. Try downloading another modpack. If the download does not stop in the middle on its own (happened 4 times today) exit the downloading window. You will be stuck on the launcher with all buttons greyed out and no way to quit except with task manager. Then try fiddling with the 'edit modpack' thing. After an unsuccessful launch or quitting the modpack editor in a non-intended way you will be stuck with the buttons on the lower side greyed out making you unable to launch until you restart it.
It's also the fact that it's unhandy. The way the interface is organized for example. Maps? Textures? Am i not supposed to be able to change those INSIDE the MC launcher? News? If i wanted to see your notifications i would've gone to your website, and if it's about an update that will corrupt my world, i expect a pop-up. The download window is not showing what it is downloading. The arrangement of the buttons is not evident and sometimes not even logical.
And the way it organises the files is convoluted and almost messy. Technic launcher does that better too.
And finally: It's not pretty. The technic launcher showing a preview of the users face, animated background changing with the modpack, and a simple scrolling menu on the side (not terribly well done though) just feels more inviting than the dark (but actually pretty looking and nicely colored) interface, in a standard window frame, with the win98/xp looking icons for the content.
6. It was just the best mod i could make an example with. There's also defenceplus, fluidmechanics, electricexpansion, powerconverters, weaponmod, and all that other dirty-sci-fi-looking stuff that i can't find atm. Also galacticraft.
1. You'd be surprised how "common" common sense is on the internet
2. Cool beans.
3. Can you give some examples of him nerfing things? I'm not teasing you, I just started with the old 1.4.2 FTB pack and I'm now using 1.4.7, and of course not much was changed as far as I'm aware.
4. Not much to say here.
5. I haven't had that problem, so you should update the launcher or something.
6.Not much to say here.
7. Say, I like the way this is organized. I wish more people would use this format.
