There are a few mods that I would like to add but they need forge. I use magic launcher to install my mods (because I constantly mess up minecraft.jar when I try to install them myself) and I'm not sure if that's why I can't get both or not.
I would love to install Minecraft Comes Alive. Can I use magic launcher to install it?
You can install modloader and forge pretty easily with magic launcher. You just add Modloader before you load forge. It'll say there's a few errors (It says 7 for mine), but it should work fine.

Forge Currently contains all the FML(Forge Mod Loader) which in theory is fully compatible with Modloader mods. why i say in theory is that there is a small chance that the mod was written weird so it wont run but in that case you should submit your error log to forge's website and they will fix the problem. Simple answer just use forge.
Why do you dislike MagicLauncher? I find it very convenient and easy to use.
Also Forge should load ModLoader mods.
I'm not the person you replied to, but I'd like to say I've been a big fan of Magic Launcher for a while... until I started using MultiMC last week. While Magic Launcher works quite well, MultiMC allows me to run any version of MC and mods without having to reset everything. For example, I was testing a 1.5.1 modded setup when a friend asked me to jump on his modded 1.4.7 server. All I had to do was quit my game, launch the instance I made matching his server, and there I was! When I was done, I flipped back to the other instance and continued 1.5.1 no problem.
More importantly, I've actually noticed a performance increase with MultiMC. I have an old computer and the EBXL big tree forests lag me pretty bad sometimes, almost to the point of lockup. Running the same setup only using MultiMC, the crippling lag turns into minor lag.
Back on-topic, ModLoader shouldn't be needed, as FML runs a vast majority of ModLoader mods.
