Here's a great question: When will the Aether Mod be updated?!?!
I can tell you now that that's a great question, so I will do all I can to set a few things straight for people.
I can say that the mod developers are being quite lazy with this mod. All the greatest mods are the ones that are updated in mere hours of a release, not having to wait a few releases before it becomes compatible again. Think about it; the greatest mods are Too Many Items, Single Player Commands and Optifine. They do not have as great content as the Aether, but they get updated quickly.
Here is where I pause to say something before I continue:
If TMI wasn't updated for a week after an update, everyone would FLIP because we have learnt to rely on it so much. I'm sort of glad that it hasn't happened with the Aether.
Now the other side:
The mod developers should be given a break, because they've had to lock BOTH the Aether threads due to "plz update" spam. Want it that bad? Learn Java and make a mod for god's sake. Or go back to a previous version. If you can live with a version that doesn't have it, you can live without it. Also, I KNOW that people continuously trollspam Notch and Jeb's Twitter pages about updating it. GIVE THEM TIME. I heard an official skylands is coming soon.
Now that you've read all that, take a side in this, but DONT ***** ABOUT IT. There's a difference between having an opinion and being obnoxious. This thread IS NOT FOR TROLLS.
First off, you seem to have absolutely no idea what modding is. Modding is extremely time consuming, and, believe it or not, most people do not have the time to do so. Every time a new version is released the obfuscation of the source code is changed, forcing us modders to either decifer all the names that are changed (and this can take weeks) or wait for the MCP team to do the work for us.
Furthermore you fail completely at categorizing mods. Mods are not "big" because they are popular. They are big because they either edit or add a lot of files. TMI changes very few files, only adding a few lines of code compared to most big mods. SPC is about the same size. Optifine is a lot larger than the previous two but is still nowhere near as big as Aether.
And then there's the entire "all other mods are updated within days, why isn't the Aether mod" thing. Good god, the Aether took several months to make, with three of the most talented modders out there working together. Noone is going to update it, seeing how that requires one to basically go through the entire code and edit names, within days, weeks or even months. It's way too much work and, quite frankly, not worth it.
Please, for the love of god, don't make these kind of topics unless there's actually a need and, and I'd like you to take note of this, you know what you're talking about.
TBH I don't think it's changing all the references that is keeping the Aether from being updated. My mod has 149 class files, and I can update it in 2 or 3 hours after every update. All you have to do is find the old methods and replace them throughout Eclipse using the search function. Personally, I think the delay has to do with these modders having too much to do with their own mods to focus on Aether. I admit, I prefer to focus on my own mod than on mods I work on in a team. Its just more about personal property.

I've always said that you put a lot of work into your mod and that it deserves more attention but don't try to compare it. When you modify the way the game works you can realize how much work it takes to update it. When I update less than 10 class files in which I modify base files or work with base code, I cannot simply change names or copy my code over. I have to rewrite everything and follow the same chain of thought I did before.

Compare myself to Aether? Not a chance in hell. My mod is closer to your flagship one, or to something like SDK's guns mod. That's probably the best comparison. Plenty of new content, but no major changes to gameplay itself. The Aether is much bigger and understandably so, as it adds another dimension that is more and better developed than the Nether itself. Also, I went back and reviewed the Aether files. I had no idea! 1185 class files, at least several hundred of them modified base files. I forgot the Aether introduced so many new elements to Minecraft, but of course it does.
Jesus, why so many base files? I still can't get my head around that one. But either way, I can definitely understand their problem now. While some base files remain nearly the same (e.g. EntityRenderer), these apparently do not, and that perfectly explains why the Aether is so massive. Do you have any idea why they modified so many base files?

You have to modify like 15 just to make a new dimension, Minecraft.java included.

I KNOW WHAT IM TALKING ABOUT. Sorry for shouting, it had to be said. I mod myself, so everyone can disregard your first statement. And people have conflicting ideas of what a big mod is, and how long it takes to update them (refer to Pheenixm). I am willing to bet that this took months to make, but updating a mod is not the hardest thing out there. That said, I did post both sides of the argument for everyone's sake, so please regard BOTH SIDES of my opinion. Just saying, because it looks like you've just commented on one side of the argument.

That's all well and good, but we'd still have people bitching about Forge compatibility if the new Aether modified as much base files as the old Aether. I've never tried the mod, heard it's good, but Forge compatibility is too much of a sacrifice to give up to me.

In 1.2.5 my Creep Mod modifies only BiomeGenBase.java when I use DimensionAPI by Pudelhund.
I'm pretty sure DimensionAPI didn't exist when Aether was created. I only found out about that recently myself and I actually plan on using it.
They are not being lazy, they're doing a very hard work to update, see here:
