Okay so I've modded in the past but never Java. I found the Java tutorials and modding tutorials around this site and have been slowly increasing my awareness of both Java and Minecraft itself. I have some very specific directions I want to go in the future, and I was hoping to get some pointers in the right direction so I don't waste -too- much time fooling around. I'm sure these questions have been covered elsewhere but the search function isn't working for me, so please be patient and not too rude with a newbie :smile.gif:
First off, I'm planning on changing the relative amount of time a tool lasts. I want shovels to last a little longer than they do, and I want to switch some numbers so that Gold is stronger than Iron (technically, in the real world, gold is of course a very weak metal, but in my mod I want metal strengths to be relative to how rare the stone is, hence gold be stronger. You don't have to agree with it, I just want some help making it). I think I might have found where this information is contained in the code, but I'm not sure and I don't want to do too much fooling around until I am, so a helpful pointer as to where these values are would be much appreciated.
The second area is a much bigger concern and I quite frankly don't have any idea on where I would start with this one. I'm trying to make a zombie horde type mod where players have to build defenses against increasing waves of zombie attackers. I was hoping to change the Zombie mod behavior so that sunlight no longer damages them and that they spawn more.
Third would be an even more in-depth process as I want zombies to be able to notice the player from much farther away.
Fourth, I want to make zombies capable of damaging blocks as they attempt to attack the player. This way they can break down the defenses that players make.
And fifth is, I think, the most difficult as it relates to spawning behavior itself. I want zombies to spawn more as time goes on in the server. I'm not even sure if this is possible, but generally I was thinking that the more time has passed, the more zombies spawn, making it increasingly difficult.
Again, I'm just starting out at this and was hoping that I could get at least pointed in the right direction for these general ideas. Are they possible, will they be difficult, what settings and code will I need to dig into to accomplish my goals, that sort of thing.

Id love to help you! I am an experaced moder and love to help those who need it. A few pointers, 1) for the tools you should find a file called item *tool name* .java in there there should (should) be a string of code saying somting like resistence 100 blocks or the like. change that to the derability u would like. 2) Theres a reason zombies die in the light, thats because of the spawn limits only a few mobs can spawn per chunck so I do not recomend both changing the spawn mec and making them servive in daylight but if you want open entity zombie.java and thers a bit of code un there that should end <fire> change <fire> to = null. the zombies will amass over time that way andlive in the day light. please pm me if u have any questions.
