As you can see the map is still a WIP so there is no final ending yet i will definitely remove the "ending room" thing and i will most probably not change the name of the map as i will have to make new banners, download, post and all sort of things anyways kudos to you thanks for the review
Sickness is Spreading is a map that is... confused? As i played through the map it seemed
like the theme was all over the place. You start in a tent, with a pumpkin headed "NPC"
outside, which gave the map a silly feel, which doesn't fit with the map's title at all.
He tells you about how the mayor of an unnamed town needs your help. The pumpkin
also says that he left a diamond sword in the chest behind you for you to take. I look in
the chest, and there's no diamond sword. It also says to play on peaceful until you are told
to change it, but you are never asked to change it, making the full set of diamond armor,
bow, arrows, and golden apples that were all just handed to you, completely useless.
Now thats the least of the problems with this map.
You meet two other characters, who only have about two lines of dialogue each, which are
mayor and the blacksmith. Oddly enough, they are not represented by pumpkin headed NPC's
like the first character you meet.
The story is stupid, that's the nicest way to put it. Basically you go into this town but
there is absolutely no point to it except for finding items that really can't help you in
any way. There's nothing to read around town, nothing. Basically, this giant creeper face
that's carved into a hill next to the town is somehow causing a disease to spread, although
it's never explained as to why, or even how the disease is affecting people.
Vines are everywhere, and supposedly to show that the town is being consumed by the disease.
What's really confusing here is that, it's impossible to tell if the town is still inhabited.
There's only one physical NPC, but the mayor and blacksmith are in town, but they're
represented by nothing. There are no other townspeople, not even notes left by any. The mayor
and blacksmith make it hard to tell if the people still live there or not, but why would they
anyway?
The map tries to be eerie, but humorous. The eerienesss works less than decent in town, but
the humor is comprised of trees saying that trees can't talk, which has no relevance to anything
nor is it funny. The theme went from silly to slightly eerie. No you make your way to the
creeper face.
Inside this hill, you'll find puzzles, and while most of them are decently crafted, they are
all puzzles that are used in maps all the time, and they also looked rushed, like they were just
thrown in to take up time. This puzzle section doesn't fit the eerie feel of the town at all,
especially the frozen bowling puzzle.
I didn't actually get to finish the map because i got to a point where there was no where to go,
nothing to do, no key items or anything, so i didn't finish it, not that i even wanted to.
I may be bashing on this map a lot, but it does have certain strong points. For one, the
design of the town and everything in it is some of the best i've seen. It's absolutely
stunning, especially while i was using the John Smith 32x32 texture pack. The puzzles are
also cleaned up pretty well.
Overall, this is an extremely boring map that doesn't quite know what it wants to do, or
what genre to be, or even what the theme is. It has tons on flaws and bugs that ruin the
whole thing, and the story is one of the dumbest i've ever heard, if not THE dumbest, and
not to mention the embarassing, atrocious grammar throughout the whole thing.
My suggestions:
-Use proper grammar
-Remove any type of humor
-Less puzzles, more adventure
-More of a backstory (and a different story, the current one is extremely stupid)
sorry dude didint say it, now i did it
Accepted
No prob :biggrin.gif:
