Just curious.. Are First Person 3D WEAPON models and animations possible in a minecraft mod? I not talking about how the sprites of an item is changed into the flat 3d models that we get; I talking about more than just 16x16, but adding another dimension to that, like in a traditional modern day first person video game. All of this, complete with 3d animations.
One of the reasons why I ask this is because I imagined that it would be cool to see a Hammer in minecraft, it being swung at the enemy, and "feel" the heaviness of that hammer as it goes through the air or at a skeleton's skull.
If it is possible, would lag be a problem? What are some other possible CONS that would come with the addition of 3d models for weapons?
I would say that making 3d models for everything would be too much work, so 3d models just for weapons would be better. Also, the entire anatomy of the player would have to probably be made a little more complex(to match more complex hands). Finally, designing a 3d model for Minecraft would hopefully be made easier for modders out there. Perhaps the models would be simple enough to where you only have to change the textures of the models when making a custom one. Cheers!
Minecraft is not Call of Duty. That's what makes it unique... no just don't...
I agree. I'm not sure if the outcome of the idea would come out good or not. Sorry... Guns weren't the first thing I had in mind, but I get what you're coming from.
Minecraft is a unique game in it self. It doesn't need an extra like this. I just would like to know whether it's possible or not.
ItemRenderer.java, public void renderItemInFirstPerson(float f); It renders map and hand in full 3d. Nothing is stopping you from adding other things. Musket from weaponmod looks hideous by the way, it definitely needs 3d model. And no, I don't play CoD or whatever FPS all kids are ecstatic about.
