You start by building a portal out of iron blocks. You light it on fire and an odd greenish portal appears in front of you. You walk through.
A little dizzy, and a fair bit lighter, you find yourself on the other side, inside a space station, control panels flashing, and steel gleaming under glow-stone lights. You notice a crafting bench in the corner. Using supplies you craft a space suit as illustrated below:
Reinforced wool: 1 gold ingot, 1 wool
Space helmet: 5 glass, 3 reinforced wool
Space suit top: 7 reinforced wool, 1 iron ingot
Space suit bottom: 7 reinforced wool
Space boots: 2 reinforced wool, 2 iron ingots
After crafting the space suit, you head through the airlock and find yourself buoyant in a zero gravity vacuum, surrounded by large and small meteorites, and the occasional icy comet, full of frozen treasures. You pull out your pickaxe and drift over to a chunk of rock, dotted with craters, scars old and new from collisions past, showing occasional hints of the riches below. You head for the deepest crater, and a patch of redstone ore catches your eye.
Quickly mining out the ore under it's self-produced light, an idea catches your fancy. What if you could build a house inside the meteorite? Taken with romantic passion, you excavate a few hallways, a small bedroom, a kitchen, and a living room, decorating them accordingly.
After sealing up all the holes created by mining the ores, and sealing off the entrance with sturdy iron doors, you place down a craftbench, and craft an air tank.
Air tank: 8 iron ingots, 1 redstone
As air begins to fill the room, you take off your space helmet and begin to feel a weak gravity pulling downwards in the vicinity of the air tank, setting your feet firmly on the ground. Removing the remainder of your space suit, you make a bowl of mushroom stew, and sit warmly beside your fireplace.
Sounds cool, right?
The only catch is... Although I do have some coding experience, I don't know how(Or rather, what) to code, make models, and such for a Minecraft mod. If you would like to take the idea and run with it, feel free, and tell me how it works out.
*Edit*
I know there's a moon mod and all that featured by the YOGSCAST, but I'm thinking OPEN SPACE. With zero gravity (movement assisted by something similar to flying, with momentum and some friction to keep the player from flying away), and meteors suspended in the empty expanse of space.
As the yogscast noted, the moon mod is kinda lame atm. What I'm thinking of is something that would go great with movecraft, and with the freedoms of open space and zero gravity (movement assisted by something similar to flying).
I haven't seen any mods which really capture the idea and run with it like madmen.
Yogscast have a mod like this... only the portal is made of cheese... :sleep.gif:
wow, didnt you read the post 3nd0fw0r1d just made? sure the moon mod exists, but atm its kinda... lacking
building in open space would be epic (not to mention movecraft in space :tongue.gif:)
Welcome to the forums 3nd! Anyway, mods that require a new dimension and making it "interesting" require alot of time and work and not to forget patience. As much as i would love to see this hapeen, there are thousands of requests like these and none of them are ever made. Sure its cool, but unless this get alot (and i mean ALOT) of popularity, it simply isnt going to happen. And dont mind the haters, there just hungry for some trollz snacks..-Alkio

The thing is, I'm just offering up a suggestion to anyone who might want to make it, not actually making it. :tongue.gif:
And i understand that, but as i said when i said "this simply isnt going to happen" i meant that a modder who is talented enough to do this isnt going to start/finish it. You never know, for all i know this might aswell be the most popular mod ever made(If it is made) Sorry to burst your bubble, but life is tough.

Well, you know what happened with the Aether mod. It might just happen.
Sounds like a really good idea. How about expanding the space center and giving it controls similar to that awesome Airship Mod thing? It could be a collar effort between loads of modders...
The space center I was talking about would just be a kind of protection when first exiting the portal into outer space. It supplies air, light, and space to build, while you prepare for the harsh environment of the vacuum.
The aether mod like i said, was highly popular and widely talked about. Looking here it looks like a good start, but keep adding ideas and make it interesting.

turn off gravity/fly mod, mebbe something to do with water perhaps for the damage over time of lack of oxygen/pressurisation...
making the environment doesnt sound too hard either not that i could do it, in some ways sounds like it might be similar to moon mod but the name moon mod implies to me its on the moon, much like regular minecraft. this guys idea makes it more like the environment of the aether.
not bad idea i reckon go read the modding tutorial and dont expect it to happen overnight
