So, to start off, i want to say that i love the modding community of minecraft, it is awesome, and i think that it will continue to grow for a very long time, but this also means that there is a LOT of mods, and most of them are from people who have only made 1-2 other mods, meaning that they often dont have very much experience, which leads to them doing a mod that someone else has already done because its easy.. This is very annoying, cause it means that there is 5000 Mo' Ores mods, and most of the time it adds the same thing, just re-textured and re-named. I am not just talking about Mo' Ores mods, i am talking about a ton of other mods that have been done over, and over, and over. Because of this, most of the good mods get buried alive in the sea of garbage mods that people throw out, so i was thinking, why not have a sub-forum were modders that are newer (have made 1-5 mods) could post there mods, rather then going over to the Released Mods page and spamming there mod there. Now this might seem harsh, mainly because they wouldnt get nearly as many views, but I think that it would help the Released mods section to be a lot less cluttered with Mods that have been done over and over. Now you might be thinking "well the newer modders could just bi-pass the hole thing and post in the Released mods page" What i am thinking could be implemented, is that you have to have made like 4 mods before you can post there, this will also stop people from posting viruses and spam.
Thanks for anyone that read the hole thing and didnt TL;DR :biggrin.gif:
Remmeber: this is my opinion, and its only a opinion so dont jump on me if you disagree with something!

I don't know how easy it would be to accommodate that, but I also have to disagree with this idea based on my situation and that of another modder I know. What happens when a well-known modder disappears and stops updating his/her mods? In both cases I mentioned (myself and another) we happened to split the mods of another to keep updated, and they are the only mods that we have. I started with three (since expanded to 4 to cover all the original modders' mods) and the other person has 2 of the mods. With your idea we would be forced to post in the new modders section based off of number of mods, and as you said that would most likely mean less views and make it harder for the people who used the old versions to find the new updates that are being provided.
I would have to agree that something needs to be done about the influx of similar beginner's mods, but I am not a fan of your idea. I'd offer an idea myself, but the only one that I can think of involves someone maintaining a list of the bigger mods and having it stickied. Then there's teh issue of what happens if that person disappears (has happened, that's why there aren't many lists left).
I personally can't vote for this. The thing is, this is great news for those that actually are good at modding and release good stuff, and for those that are looking for great mods. For the beginners, on the other hand, this is bad news, as people would ignore their section, and they would have little constructive criticism to help them improve. It's kinda like the apartheid all over again; people would think of the beginner section as the Noob section.
Also, having a requirement on how having posted a certain amount of mods would be a bad idea. Beginners would spam with mini-mods and it would actually get worse.
What we should have instead would be a team of validators that validate every single mod posted, and they are sorted into the two sections.
Another suggestion would be a set of categories instead, like New blocks and items, New gameplay style, Large projects, WIP, New realms, etc. This would make more frontpages, and the new ores would be filtered out from the other sections.
Thanks guys for the feedback! And yeah, there are a lot of problems with my suggestion, but its more of a thought about how some of the clutter in the modding forum could be removed, but i am sure there are much better/simpler ways ^^
Have to make 4 mods to post your mods there?
/sorry if I may sound harsh during this post/
I say that the Quality of the Mod does not have to do with the amount of previous mods made. Sure some Beginners could post some simple and ..annoying mods. Though maybe they actually have a great mod. And
this will also stop people from posting viruses and spam.
How many times has this happened? o.O Well theirs some texture packs and some mods that arnt laid out very good with only a one sentence description, and a dl link.
Ehh.. pointless post. I guess perhaps.. I would say that the simple Mods shouldent be posted at all, yet you cant get crit like that.
To post a Mod in the Released Mods section:
-Mod Thread has to be approved by a moderator
-If the Mod is a copy or quite similar to another mod (Probably more known or done), the thread will be closed.
-No just really unbelieve simple Mods (like tut followed 1 new block mob.
A [New Modders Thread] or like [Simple Questions Thread] should be made. Where one can see a list on links to tuts, able to post code help. Well I guess all of that can go into a tut thread. but they can also post and talk about a simple mod they made, and how they can achieve to make better mods
so, after reading through the comments, i have found (imo) that people dislike my overall idea, but would like some sort of sorting for the newer/repetitive mods, am i correct?
