This thread is intended for people to post in custom building plans for my Millénaire mod.
To make it as convenient as possible for users, please respect the following:
The only posts in this thread should be for the building plans themselves. One post per building please, edit them if you update your plan.
Include at least one screenshot of the building as completed by the villagers
Mention the version of Millénaire it's intended for. Right now, the building format is compatible across all versions, but I can't guarantee this will always be true
The building files themselves should be downloadable preferably as zipped text files uploaded somewhere (for instance SugarSync, which you can register for here (shameless referral quota bonus to me if you use this link)
Do not paste it directly in the thread, to avoid filling it up with walls of text
The line to be added to custom.txt can be put directly in the post however
Only put here buildings that you have actually tested in-game; only I get to use other Millénaire players as testers :smile.gif:
I reserve the right to take any building posted in this thread and include it in a future Millénaire release, with credits of course.
Instructions on how to make Millénaire building plans is included in the first post of the main Millénaire thread. Note that using NotePad on Windows will cause issues with files generated on other OS, such as the base ones that are made on Mac. Instead use something like PSPad (Windows) or TextWrangler (Mac) (both free and available online).
To install buildings from this thread, go to your minecraft folder (.minecraft on Windows), then in buildingplans/custom inside it (or occasionally, buildingplans/core if it's an upgrade to one of the major buildings) and put the text files there. For any new building (as opposed to an upgrade to an existing one) there should also be a line to be put in custom.txt inside buildingplans/custom, provided by the poster.
25/04/11 update: the file format has changed in Millénaire 0.3. Buildings intended for earlier versions will no longer work (however they can be modified to work with 0.3 easily, check the updated modding guide). Custom building producers should clearly mark when their buildings are updated to 0.3 format.

A cross to beauty the villages. It has four stages, the picture is the third.
First stage: Plank base, dirt cross;
Second stage: Smoothstone base, wooden cross;
Third stage: Cobblestone base, wooden cross;
Fourth stage: Cobblestone base, smoothstone cross.
You can remove the fourth stage if you like :tongue.gif:

Lots of cool buildings, I just wish I had more time to try them :smile.gif:
Please though try and respect the instructions in the first post, especially the one on putting screenshots for buildings and to avoid chit-chat in the thread, I want it to remain dense.
Otherwise, I also edited the first post regarding where to put new buildings. They should go in the custom directory. The extra one is for buildings that come with the mod itself. Adding buildings to either will work fine, it's just that whenever I make an update you'll have to merge your extra directory with mine, while I'll keep the custom one empty so you can just keep yours instead.

Below is a pretty basic castle, with 1 upgrade, that pretty much just upgrades the towers. I edited it a good bit form its original thing, which I had my villagers build, so no screenies. Tell me how it turns out if you download it.
Updated May 5: Updated Circular Solar Array Kit to v3 file format. Oh look, v4 is out. :biggrin.gif: Testing compatibility... It seems to work.
Updated May 6: Updated simple farms, bakery upgrade, small well
Updated May 6: Added automated cactus farm'
Updated May 8: Updated links and added a few buildings. There was a lull where there were not too many additions, if I missed anything please PM me the link to the post.
I'm checking out a bunch of these. My submissions are at the end. Rather than clutter up this thread with lots of replies, I'll post all my comments and my submissions here. Edited to include links to the posts containing the download. Custom building authors, edit your post in this thread with updates please, to help keep the thread clean.
Tips for building downloaders:
How to install:
Extract the "buildingname_L#.txt" * files to: %appdata%\.minecraft\millenaire\buildingplans\custom\
(*where L is a letter and # is a number.)
You no longer need to edit custom.txt with v0.3 and up.
More help:
Older downloads may reference a 'custom.txt' or 'extras.txt' - these files are no longer used with the new Millenaire. All you need to do is extract the "buildingname_L#.txt" files to the directory above. (Where L is a letter and # is a number)
Files named buildingname_#.txt are for the older version of Millenaire. Most of the downloads are not compatible with v0.3 and up of Millenaire, without minor editing. Files need to be renamed from buildingname_# to buildingname_A# and the first few lines of each file will need to be adjusted. Compare the files to the existing files in core and extras to see the differences, and make the appropriate changes.

Tips for building makers:
Have updates to your building? Edit your original post.
Post daytime pictures of your buildings. You can add them to your post later, when you have a chance to get some good shots.
Need ideas for what to make? Search Google images for pictures of Norman or French villages. :smile.gif:
Why doesn't the building construct? Check the floorplan, make sure it is the same dimensions on every floor. Make sure there is only one blank line between each floor, and that there are no extra blank lines at the end of the file. If I encounter a building that has these errors, I will note it in my comments.
What is the French/Norman word for X? Check wordreference.com - translate your word to French, then translate the result back to your native language to verify it.
Test your building! A backup of a save with everything else already built comes in handy for this.
"-" results in an air block in the _0 file and "no change" in the _1 and above files. "/" results in an air block in all files. No need to duplicate materials in the _1 and above files. Just use "-" to represent "no change"
Orientation: 0 means the entrance is to the top, 1 means it is to the left. Millenaire will attempt to orient buildings so that they face the town hall. Draw your buildings accordingly.
Slow to construct? Widen entrances, try 2x2 or wider. Construct exterior walls in stages as upgrades. Split complex building stages over multiple upgrades. Look at the included core and extra files for examples.
Comments on submissions:
Airport: (Has Pictures) Looks just as awesome completed as it does in the pics. The runway could use some upgrades that widen it out to the fence, right now it's very narrow compared to the spitfire. This would also keep animals from spawning on the runway, planes tend to break when they hit one. There are some material inefficiencies in the existing upgrade, some materials are duplicated. I had to extend it slightly to accommodate slower planes. May not exactly fit the theme but it's your choice to install it.
Bank: Nice layout, very large building. Could use a second floor as one of the upgrades, which could be done without making the building taller. It might look nicer with mixed textures. The building faces down instead of up or left in the file so it won't be oriented with the exit facing the town hall.
Barracks and hut: The barracks has an interesting layout. Both buildings go through a series of updates that change the building layout. The hut ends up as a two-story building, the barracks ends up with housing for plenty of folks and a practice area. The only problem I found was with ladders not attaching properly, but that is easily fixed by the player in-game.
Bunker: (Has Pictures) Produces a very nice underground bunker, just like the pics. This could also be used as the start of a mine for the player. Needs a lot of smooth stone, just as described.
The next 3 are part of a pack
Blacksmith: Nice building, tho a bit of a weird design. There is a hole for magma, but if you put magma in it, the building will burn down in seconds. I managed to edit the design in-world to fix the problem, but it makes the building look ugly and uses a lot of space. I tried the new design too, same thing.
Custom Chapel: looks nice, but there are some stray dirt blocks at the back.
Custom Tavern: Edit: Things I mentioned have been fixed by the creator.
New version: Looks nice. Only issue are with the stairs since the double steps don't work quite right, half-blocks would need less editing by the player.
Castle, rounded (casrle): I love the rounded turret look. The spiral staircase doesn't quite work right, many steps are mis-aligned. The file is named "casrle.txt" tho, should at least be named "casrle_0.txt" - but the other castle is named 'castle' too, maybe choose a more descriptive name or we run the risk of having hundreds of 'castle' and 'house' buildings.
Workshop and guard tower that come with this are nice, but guard tower could use ladders that go all the way up. A 3x3 tower with the ladder in the center will help the ladder tiles attach to the right block.
Castle, square: Interesting layout, but the ladders don't go all the way up. Also the upgrade duplicates a lot of materials, making it take a longer time to apply.
I think I had to edit one of the castles to get it to construct, but if so I don't remember which one.
Cross: (Has Pictures) Very nice, with lots of upgrades. Simple design. It may end up placed too close to a large structure, a wider Area to Clear might help. Edit: Fixed with a new version of Millenaire which places buildings at a wider distance.
The next two are in one post.
Chapel Grande: (Has Pictures) Nice, but looks a little odd with wood on the first floor and stone being supported by it, architecturally, since it doesn't fit with the rest of the mixed-material buildings.
Well: (Has Pictures) Edit: Included with the main mod now. Problems I mentioned still exist. The ladder does not always attach. The center of the well does not get cleared and filled with water properly if the well was built near sand or gravel, since those blocks fall down.
Graveyard: All floors after the first two are missing a row of ---'s at the bottom, building would not construct. When checking, I noticed "g" was used instead of "G" on the second floor, this would have resulted in a glass-bottomed graveyard. :biggrin.gif: There are also stray planks behind the structure.
Mansion: Takes a long time to build because of the wall around the structure. It has a glass floor for some reason, like the graveyard. I'm still waiting for the rest of the building to complete. (Knocking down the wall helped speed things up.) Edit: I aborted construction of this, it takes way too long to build with the wall. IMHO it should be split into multiple upgrades, with the central buildings coming first and the walls and such getting added later.
Hut and Simple House included with mansion: One of them faces the wrong way. In the file, buildings should face up or left. (0 or 1 for orientation, respectively) Basic buildings, they could use upgrades.
Marketplace: (Has Pictures) V1: Looks just as nice as it does in the pictures. The only problem I noticed was that I got wood half-steps instead of torches (lowercase t vs uppercase T in the file) Also it seems like there are stray blocks in the ceiling that were designed to prevent the building from being completed without all the resources available. I'm not sure if this was for testing or an intentional design, since the first stage is made out of wool and is otherwise buildable without any resources. Further upgrades would be nice.
V2: Apr 15 2011: Adds multiple cobblestone upgrades. Last upgrade still appears to have 'test' blocks in it. I dunno what is up with those. :smile.gif: The half-steps in the 'windows' don't always orient right, half-blocks might work better. Some wood blocks don't remove correctly during upgrades.
Tower: Produces a lookout tower with multiple upgrades. It has a compact design and it fits the theme.
Watchtower: (Has Pictures) EDIT: Included with the mod now. Folks with older versions can download the new version and get the Watchtower files from it. Nice building, lots of upgrades, looks good in all modes. No major issues, only minor one is I would remove the furnace and crafting table from the design, and have the bottom floor open on all sides with 3x3 entrances - NPCs tend to get stuck a lot while building and upgrading this.

Alternate core buildings
Buildings start as tents and get upgraded to wooden structures. Haven't tested yet but it looks cool.
A set of simple farm fields, they were practice work before I move on to anything complicated. These are dirt fields with a water source in the center and a fence around the outside. You will need to till them yourself, I didn't want to mark them as fields in the file in case it caused problems with the real farms. A bunch of these scattered around will give your village a definite farm vibe.
Since these were so simple, I wanted to take it up a notch. Each set of fields includes 4 sizes: tiny, small, medium, and large. There are two sets of fields in the zip, raised farms (with borders) and flat farms (without borders) - the raised ones are basically on a platform and will end up raised 1 block above the surrounding area. The raised fields also include torches at the entrance. There are upgrades for both farms too, which add cobblestone blocks under the fencing. The grass under my fences keeps dying and it was bugging me. :smile.gif: If you don't want that, delete the _1 files, or edit them to change the material that gets placed.
All four sizes of field are in this pic, tho not all are plainly visible. The small and medium fields are located above and below the tavern. The tiny field is left of the town center. And the large one is plainly visible by the large fountain.
Tiny Fields - 1 block around a water source
Small Fields - 2 blocks around a water source
Medium Fields - 3 blocks around a water source
Large Fields - 4 blocks around a water source
Bakery upgrade for v3+v4:
I raised the fan by 2 blocks, widened the mill part, and added a millstone and gearshaft. (smoothstone and fence :smile.gif:
The second upgrade adds an additional large chest in the back. I thought the additional chests were getting used, but I'm not sure now. You can delete the _A3 file to exclude the chest upgrade.
Circular Solar Array (kit) for v3+v4:
For those who play using Millenaire and Industrial Craft. Produces a circular building with space for plenty of solar panels, with placeholders for necessary devices. You will need to manually place the appropriate Industrial Craft objects.
Warning: This array produces 156 EU when completely full. Nothing compared to the large-scale power rigs, but way more than you might need when just starting out. Don't try to fill the entire array at once. It's meant to be expandable, to grow with your needs, and to be large enough to meet them as they grow beyond the beginning IC stuff. Check the Industrial Craft documentation to see exactly what your needs are, it lists EU usage per machine.
If you are already overproducing power, that sounds like an excellent time to wire up all the buildings in the village to an electric grid. :biggrin.gif:
Instructions: Replace the wool with cables, and place switch cables in the center of the "+"es. Replace the exterior planks with solar panels, and place solar panels on top of the exposed cables on the roof. Replace the interior planks with MFEs, MFSes, or switch cables as desired.
Produces 13 power from each flower, 39 from each side, 156 total. There is built-in space for 4 emergency generators per side, 16 total, expandable to 6 per side, or 24 total. Emergency generators fit into the slots next to the upper MFEs.
You can dig a basement and place your machines there, or run an HV line from this building to your workplace. Or simply place a few machines on the exposed floor cabling when getting started.
The building does NOT need to be completely filled in with panels and MFEs before it becomes functional. You can do useful work with as little as one MFE, a single solar panel, and a handful of cables.
The building, as built by the NPCs:
One side filled with solar panels, using switch cables to connect to a single MFE:
That same side, with 3 MFEs and a MFS:
An array with a full set of solar panels:
Tips:
Something not working? Make sure you replaced ALL the wool blocks with cables. There are wool blocks beneath the MFE placeholder blocks too.
There are four exits to the building, for construction purposes. You may wish to seal up some of these after construction is complete. Place doors in the rest to keep monsters and animals out.
Beware of overproduction! Instead of starting out by making 10 solar panels for example, try 5 solar panels and a generator or two instead. Place the generators in the spots next to the upper MFEs/switches, if you run low on power and the solar panels alone aren't cutting it, you can burn coal, charcoal, or the various fuels to charge up your main battery for a period of heavy machine use. Monitor how much power your base consumes versus how much it produces, and expand slowly.
Okay, well, if the Normans had needed cactus pieces like this, I'm sure they would have made an automated cactus farm. Right. Keep telling yourself that as you download this abomination. Includes no exterior windows, to hide the shame of what you are doing. :wink.gif:
Now, you could stand there with your feet soaking in the water while pieces of spiky cactus gently pelt you in the face and crotch, or you could set up a pressure plate, Allocator, and chest to automatically store the automatically-harvested cactus.
I'm not expecting to impress anyone with this, it's a very simple building. Produces probably 1 cactus piece per minute once it is fully running. It takes a few minutes after world load/chunk load to get going. It's nothing compared to the "10 million cactus per hour" generators that go from skybox to bedrock, of course. However, it can be extended upward, simply remove the glass ceiling, leaving the glass blocks that hang down. Add more sand and cactus, and of course more hanging blocks to cause the upper area to be harvested too. No need to have more water currents, the ones at the bottom will work fine.
Includes no built-in room for storage, if you want a fancy workshop or anything more than a doorway to stand in, you will need to build it yourself.
To make it as convenient as possible for users, please respect the following:

No problem! Im currently working on an underground bunker layout. Idk what it would be for but it sounds cool right?
So, how exactly do I insert this?

i can't get any other pictures at the moment
Could you show, like, one picture please? Sounds cool though
Once beds work in custom designs ill add a bed and maybe some chests. Right now theres just furnaces and workbenches.

Thats what it looks like underground. above ground is a nice clean smoothstone entrance.
NOTE: it requires ALOT of smoothstone. im trying to work a way around that but right now thats what it does.
Next Project: a Pack of my two seperate designs and upgrades on old ones. A new fort, and other new designs.

Simple farm fields for v3+v4:

Small well for v3+v4:
I'm working on a package of wells. In the meantime, there's this:
Includes glass, cobblestone, and smooth stone upgrades. The well is intentionally shallow, to avoid NPC pathing errors or drowning issues.

Traditional Norman Automated Cactus Farm for v3+v4

Four flower array plus workshop
I made a smaller version of the circular solar array, with 4 solar flowers, and a wiring guide for a 16-machine workshop.
The array is sunken into the ground. This version contains no surface entrance, you will need to make one.
Pics coming soon.
3 flowers are more than enough to power all 16 machines at once. You may wish to dedicate one of the flowers to powering a pair of crystal chargers.
