I've been skimming the thread for posts by the modders themselves, since around page 160. I hope you guys work out that lighting bug, maybe you can contact notch about it so they can fix that bug when making new dimensions. I'd like to know, will it be possible to make a texture pack for the aether? I'd love to see the aether match my own texture pack! (the way it's designed is for vanilla minecraft, it'd look strange alongside my textures.)
Okay, I redid jeanlou (picard?)'s experiment, but for the nether.
Here's my fps and such while exploring the nether, generating new chunks:
Here's the same for after I deleted the chunks and added a bunch of glowstone planetoids. I've moved about 100 chunks distance on the rail I'm on here, so I'm still loading a bunch of chunks:
As you can see, the lag does not exist for the Nether, at least for pre-generated areas. In fact, my fps went up because it didn't have to calculate as many blocks.
I left the bedrock in and planned to remove it for a second run, but my MC Edit crashed and It's late. The 31st layer all the way to the 2nd layer is still empty so we can assume one, two, or all of three things:
-The bug is fixed for the Nether, but still exists for unofficial addon realms for some reason.
-The bug that's causing the lighting problems with the Aether is completely different from the bottomless map lag described earlier. The glitch may still occur when I try this without the bedrock layer tomorrow.
-The lighting bug is unrelated to ingame lighting calculations and is more related to map generation. I'm not so sure about this last one, but it's a possibility. It all depends on if the lag that occurs during worldgen persists after all the chunks nearby have updated.
See, even Notch agrees.
I guarantee that I will be the first to download the Aether when it comes out.
For you my friend
Yeah right. like you will be the first to download. the first person to download will be the who refreshes the page every second. Im betting ten bucks that even if i found it 10 seconds after it being released, id be about the hundreth person to download.
UNLESS Shoxio is a who refreshes the page every second.
So basically, the lighting bug is present on world generation/chunk generation, Notch only fixed it for the overworld, but it was never fixed for the Nether or other world-generations.
I'm going out on a limb here and assuming that all alternate dimensions derive things like having portals to access them through the Nether's established generating code, and if I'm right, that's what's causing the bug, not the different light levels.

I think the problem lies just below the bedrock layer, where the other half of the void is. Not removing the bedrock layer does not test the problem.

Look at my avatar. A few of you may know what this is from. Most will not. Probably because it shut down several years ago. But those were fun times while they lasted.
ok this is just a theory and considering i have absolutely no experience with java based on what i've seen written that the lag is caused when entering the Aether (loading screen) and not (doesnt start) while in the Aether then wouldn't it be maybe a world generation problem and not a lighting one considering lighting doesn't change (on the actual loading screen) while on the loading screen
This might make me sound like a total moron, but I might have some sort of solution to the lightning problem ONLY IF it's because light is being infinitely generated into the 'void' from what I have read from many forums. I'm not sure how you guys planned on making the 'Falling down to the Overworld' but would it be possible to make an invisible block that generated below the map much like bedrock? Blocking out the light. Upon touching that block you are warped back to the Overworld on the same block / location. I hope this helps, but I'm probably just thinking too hard. From what else I read, it could also have a lot to do with world generation, if so, I am of no use. Either way, good luck fixing it, I know you guys will get it eventually.

AM I right?

I'm gonna go ahead and make sure you get at least 1 positive reply.
Yes, yes it does.
PS: The Aether sounds like the planet from Metroid Prime 2: Echoes!
I know it was a dumb question. But I am a dumb person.
Shame you think that way about yourself, welcome to the forums.
