I know! Instead of bigger tools, it would be power tools! for example:
Power drill: for use against stone things like the pickaxe would.

= Diamond, wood, cobble, etc.
It would drill through things really fast, and would be repairable by a wrench (explained below), but it would also wear out fast and it would require coal to work.
edit: Ummm.... Replace the coal with a redstone would be better, because I don't think that using the material that you need to use it for would be smart.
Wrench: used to repair power tools. Limited uses. only made out of iron.

Blarg. All that is needed to be said. Can I go home now?
Hey this thread seems really popular. If you need help, I would love to help make some of the mods if I can join and help NetBlitzer. But if you guys have it all under control and don't need help, I'm fine with that :tongue.gif:
Creeper's talking? What would they say. And except for that pork thing, they're all past 4x4, like you mentioned. It seems offtopic and not really for this topic.
Really people, what is with the hate towards the 4x4 crafting grid?
Is it because you think you came up with the idea yourself and seeing this already makes you angry?
Or is it because NetBlitzer is possibly succeeding where some of you failed?
A 4x4 grid would be helpful because it would allow people to have to use more items without going off canon and having to stack items on the craft table.
You can't always balance the usefulness of an item with an increase in rarity of the resources needed to make it, sometimes you should just need more resources like with crafting a car for instance:
[]
[]
[]
I wold
= Steering wheel, could probably just use a stick and it would be automatically crafted
= A specially made engine you would craft on the 3x3 workbench only (See below)
= Wheels
Engine (Just an example):
[] []
(I really thought about having the redstone be pistons in order to get that multiple crafting feel that Minecraft is partially famous for)
= Redstone
Wheels:
[] []
[] []
You have to have 19 iron, 2 redstone, 2 glass, 1 furnace, and 2 sticks in order to craft it, that's a lot of resources to use on a 3x3. And besides, it wouldn't even be remotely realistic to craft a big a** car on a dinky little wooden 3x3 bench.
I have a suggestion though, you can only make 4x4 recipes (And possibly select 3x3 recipes) on a 4x4 workspace in order to keep a use for the the 3x3 workbench.
I support you the whole way, keep on going NetBlitzer!
Really people, what is with the hate towards the 4x4 crafting grid?
It is a lame idea that has been talked about forever and no one ever does anything with it because they eventually realize that it is a stupid idea. There is no need for a 4x4 grid. Anything that you can make in a 4x4 you can make in a 3x3. New recipies in general pretty much suck and more often than not unbalance and ruin the game. Cars, engines, hot air baloons, bigger swords etc. these ideas all just suck. No wonder Notch took a vacation.
Oi, Solo, the point of this mod is to make it harder to craft things, and to introduce something new.
Also about your 3x3 Breeder, the 4 blocks in the middle represent 2 animals, and Net, DL link?

You seriously have no imagination I do agree with you with the bigger swords and car engine and i think there is already a mod for a hot air balloon somewhere in the server mod forum but if you don't like the 4x4 grid they why don't you just get out of here seriously we really don't need some 7 year old complaining how stupid this is we already herd you the first time so why not go somewhere else and stop wasting your time.
I like the basic idea of the mod, but still, most of the suggestions for items to make with the improved grid are rather useless/silly/easily craftable in 3x3 without changing the spirit of it... Like, say, the reinforced door, an idea I like, but really...

Is just as logical and, ya know, doesn't cost more for less effect.
Not bashing the idea of a 4x4 grid, but currently I don't see it as useful. Maybe once we're going into more vehicular construction, or construction of special room effects, but the Portal demonstrates that this can be done without a grid too, so yeah... Sorry, not convinced, might like it if there's a single item here that requires a 4x4 to fully encompass what it is.
To all yee haters, this is how you properly "dislike" a mod. OR you can ignore it entirely.
TO THE POSTER: Look at my posts, make those with a a 3x3 grid, or the some of the other ones suggest trains, and I think one of them was a hot air balloon. there are plenty of things that you can't do with a 3x3 grid.

Ok, wow. Sorry guys for being away. School does that! But now I'm getting back to work. I really think that it's in the crafting manager somewhere that won't allow this to work to full potential, so... TIME TO REWRITE THE CRAFTING MANAGER! BOOYAH!
Oh, and if you don't like this, then please DON'T POST, unless you have a valid argument other than, "You can do everything in a 3x3 craft grid." This isn't exactly true. I don't really have any recipes yet (thanks you guys for making some!), but it's pretty obvious that a larger grid would be better/harder to get to for more complex objects.

I am excited to see this happen. I have the extended 2x2 which they are still working on, but it's already amazing. I love seeing new things added, and new options to explore. I am sure that there are plenty of cool things that can be made in a 4x4 and not in a 3x3.
Really, if you don't think 4x4 is necessary, skip it. I see tons of mods other people use and I don't like, so I ignore them. I don't feel the urge to bash other people's ideas or work, because it contributes nothing to anyone. So if you're not interested, you don't have to tell everyone they're stupid for the idea.
TLDR: I love the idea and can't wait for it to come out. What about combining some multi-tools? Pick/Shovel anyone?

Left click makes it mine (like an iron pick) and right click makes it dig (like an iron shovel). Can be crafted with any materials. I personally never carry a shovel because I hate switching back and forth, even though the shovel gets through sand/dirt/gravel faster.

Hello? Eat my tarts? In this cosmic dance of bursting decadence, withheld permissions twist all our arms collectively. But if sweetness can win- and it can- then I'll still be here tomorrow to high five you yesterday my friend. Peace.
*sniff* I posted this *sniff* and it's finally becoming a mod *sniff*
Also, enough of that "You can make that in a 3 by 3 grid, the idea is that you need to mine for more resources.
Now haters gonna hate, but haters are also gonna gtfo.
So, I'm fairly sure I've found the single digit/variable. It's actually called recipes.size. Unfortunately, it is not defined, and thus I must find where it IS defined. Or a way to make a work around.

Chainsaw: I think it's obvious, but to the thick, a ridiculously good axe. Cut down forests in minutes. It does extra damage to undead

AND a repair table! It would repair your tools!
[] []
I did the chests so that you could store hammers and wrenches
Hammer: used to repair your normal tools, NOT Power.

You can only use iron or Diamond for hammers, and as follows, iron repairs stone, gold, and iron, while Diamond repairs Diamond, iron, and gold.
