Amazing to see that you're so on top of things Chocolate. The moment that I saw that dyes would be added by the update, I knew your mod would be hit hard.
I don't blame you for addressing ditching your original dye system or the core game's version as a possibility, and all I can say is: take your time my friend. Work as fantastic as yours doesn't come quick.
I've been saying Minecraft needs to add, atleast some, more aesthetic blocks or tile entities. Make our Minecraft look better. Thank you for this. /me waits patiently for working update.

Honestly, I think your dye system is better. I understand that Notch wanted to create a more realistic dye system where some materials are more available than others, but lazuli being twice as rare as diamond and far more dispersed just strikes me as an unnecessary restriction and complication. Additionally, only green, white, and black dyes in vanillamc are renewable, since there is no expanded farming. I also really liked your idea of a non-natural and harder to obtain flower for darker shades, and I could easily see a solar flower counterpart for lighter shades, but I know that blockIDs were already very restrictive.
If you keep the vanilla dye system, you should at least consider leaving blue flowers as-is. Lazuli can still be crafted into a vanity building block, but if Notch doesn't change the generation rates for it, its usefulness in the dye system is questionable.
1: There will be some weirdness... <snip>... but I will do what I can to avoid crashes.
That's pretty much the answer I expected. As it is, I've decided to keep a version of my old world with the backed up .jar so I can finish my building, and will start a new world with vanilla 2.1 to take advantage of the new trees and lapis lazuli (and so I can chase squid). I'll just play them alternately until FancyPack is ready again.
2: I will most likely be removing my dye system completely...
I liked your dyeing method AND the blue flowers, however...
...there are a lot of things I want to do with it...
...reading that goes a long way to curing my disappointment. I'm curious as to what you have in mind. Luckily, I'm also patient.
Climbable chains, should they ever be implemented, sounds fun. It makes me wonder why I haven't seen a hangable, climbable rope mod yet.
5: Gold and Diamond crafts may be coming, but don't quote me on that.
Ooops, I just did. Again, I for one am prepared to wait and see what you come up with, and keep my backup .jar until FancyPack is ready once more. Good luck and thanks.
instead of spider proofing my base, i think i will just start a new world (goodbye forest fire next to spawn that was always something i would stare at during the night... (think a thick forest biome but with a lava lake in the middle of it))

Believe me, once we have a way around the limitations of terrain.png and its 256 available tiles, I am going to use the new dye system to its fullest. Specifically, it introduced a way to add blocks with 'varieties', so multiple blocks (up to 16) that act the same way could essentially become reskins of each other without having to be their own unique block ID. An example already in-game is the birch log: it's literally the same block as the regular log, same blockID and everything, but by utilizing an existing block stat Notch has been able to take two blocks that function the same, give them different names and textures, and have them stack/sort separately. It seems they can even be used in recipes differently.
The real key here is that instead of tinting, they use distinct textures, and perhaps most importantly, unlike my dyed blocks, they retain that change even when picked up and put in the inventory. This allows for all kinds of possibilities. For example, different colors of cobblestone could come in different styles, not just different tints. Black could produce smooth, slatelike stone for dark towers, green could be overgrown, vine-covered ruins stone, yellow could be ornate, highly-decorative or even gilded stone, red could be rough, almost volcanic, etc. etc. You could have two cobblestone castles side by side in-game and have them look totally different, either through dyes or other specific methods.
Know how to get the juices flowing, don't you? I said I was prepared to wait, but once you explained the potential, I realise I can't wait. I was interested as to the relationship of the birch to the wood log, and that confirms my suspicion, but the ability to extend it as far as you suggest... wow. The possibilities. Sigh, vanilla minecraft just got a little more vanilla again.
So I got the pack, but I just can't install it. This is what I have:
- a clean (no mods) and official minecraft
- modloader files
- fancypack files
- WinRAR
- Windows XP
I got as far as this:
- unpacked both fancypack and modloader
- made a regular file with the fancypack files i want
- deleted META-INF folder
But when I 'copy and replace' either the modloader or fancypack files into .jar, I get a blackscreen.
Can anybody help me? If you need more info, ask.
Leon
it is not ready yet
But it says "Beta compatible" So what do you mean...?
Also, Notch really seems to be taking the community's feedback seriously, so I wonder why, instead of working his butt off on the game, he doesn't simply ask the people here if they could allow him to implement their already finished mods and ideas... like the human or animal mods e.g. I can't think of anyone who wouldn't want that!
Read the title man, "not yet working w/ J.13th patch". With each update all the mods stop working because the code is changed a bit. People on these forums get VERY pissed when people like yourself don't take the 5 seconds to do a little bit of reading, then post a question that is already answered.
Just trying to save you from future flaming, the minecraft fans are hardcore. Especially the mod community.
All the other mods I use are updated for 1.2_1 already, and I am having one hell of a hard time deciding whether to hold back my version to keep the furniture, or to continue and await for fancypack to rise again.
Such a hard choice, but then...
It might be a bad idea to use the furniture to decorate right now, since the new block IDs will make all the furniture messed up when fancypack is updated.
Most of what I had to ask about the dyes is already above, so I'll just add my support for keeping your dyes, as notch's can't color stone (I think.) and your recipes seem more efficient than his.
The main thing I'm interested in is keeping all the extended farming portion. Is there any way it can be made independent of the core files? I love growing hybrid flowers / pumpkins / mushrooms in my garden, but I had to drop some of my other mods because all of them + fancypack overloaded modloader. the furniture is excellent, but I liked the farming more.
Also, with the new bonemeal thing, in addition to making it into a white dye like your others, could your flowers and other growing things be made to use it as well?
edit: I also would like the blue flowers to stay. Even if you don't make them into dye.
once we have a way around the limitations of terrain.png and its 256 available tiles
Jeb just posted on twitter that he and Notch had discussed increasing terrain.png to 512x512, which would quadruple the number of available 16x16 tiles (1024) if my maths are correct. Of course, they may not do this until they absolutely have to.
We have talked about increasing the texture to 512x512. A bigger problem is if we would run out of ID slots, but so far ok
They also acknowledge the blockID problem, but since they used the FastRender mod in the most recent update, I wonder if they have seen Shockah's solution?
any eta as to when this will be finished? not trying to bug. i just really want to make this and shockah's minerals work together with the new beta. and i want to get started asap.

Um i am new to this whole minecraft thing that means minecraft patcher right y do you need it to update to update this i installed it without mcp
This would also fix issues with textures breaking each update
After all, Mo Mobs refers to .png files that aren't originally with minecraft...
Does this still have the custom dyes?
Do those dyes override the now official dyeing system?

@ChocolateySyrup: if you prefer that this is just included with FancyPack, I'll remove it.
