looks insanely awesome!!!... i have one suggestion however... (edit: im a big fat liar by the way)
Obsidian Tools should have another added bonus of breaking Obsidian Faster than any other tool (other than dragon, maybe) it makes sense considering they are made from the same material... (wood can break wood, stone can break stone, iron can break iron, diamond can break diamond, and obsidian can break obsidian, makes sense, right?)
by "faster" i mean like 5-6 seconds each obsidian block.
EDIT: Also, its ironic that you have as a future project the "Dark Crystal" since im using IWannaWin Obsidian Tools and the re-skined texture i modified from painterly i named it "Dark Crystal" and i use it to make obsidian tools XD.
EDIT2: Actually, now that i think about it... you SHOULD have obsidian armor available... i really don't care if its as strong as steel or a little bit stronger... but it would be fair if you think about it, because it requires steel to craft soft obsidian anyway... But it is really cool to run around wearing a darked purple armor... im not asking to be as strong as diamond, i'm only asking it to be there, please...
EDIT3: (ok... this is too much) about the obsidian glass, obsidian glass could have the same resistance as obsidian for everything else... except for obsidian tools, in which case they react like normal glass would...
If you're going to be making obsidian tools, might I suggest that since it has a strength/weakness, you make a counter-set to them?
I.e. tools with higher strength, yet the durability of steel, but the material is equally rare. Just something to think about.
And I'm thinking of green ingots too... Something like, I don't know... iron-laced platinum? Heh.
Low durability, but high in power...
Redstone Tools?
Also, if you do the 1/100 drop rate, or whatever, don't use stone. Use something netherstone, to keep people from getting it 10 minutes into the game.
100 may SEEM like a lot, but when building a strip mine, I can get through 3 or 4 times that amount in a day. Maybe 1/1000?
Also, an alternate use for lightstone would be nice. Maybe use that instead of redstone for the counter-set of tools.
Why would you take tools that would last very little? Its not reliable!
One of the things i consider when mining is that my tools last as long as possible, because it is very tedious to have your tools broken and then going back ALL the way to your base just to replace the lost tools and then ALL the way to your mining shaft... its not practical... Thats why stone tools are unreliable in large mining shaft's... because you need tons of them in order for them to be useful... so it doesn't matter of they can break obsidian in 1 second if they are going to last like 50 uses...
If you want to farm Obsidian very quickly, then why not have a spare set of tools available to create? Plus, it'll farm redstone quickly as well. To me, it serves as an antidote to obsidian tools not being able to farm obsidian, since it has the strength of steel. Note how i said it has the DURABILITY OF STEEL as well for the idea tools.
Yes, I think it should be called redstone tools as well. Why not?
Good news guys! I just finished sorting out the bugs and graphics issues with the entire Obsidian toolset. I'm currently making a video on Youtube to show you all how to make the Obsidian tools and also show their durability. Thanks again for the support!

This is a really good mod, and I cannot wait for it to be released. But I have one request... Could you make the dragon scale a jewel and have a 1/100 chance of dropping when diggin in stone or something? Would make mining a lot more awesome. =D
I might do something similar to this, but it'd be an entire new block with a "Dragon Fossil" inside it. They will be fairly rare, around the same rareness as Diamond, but it is still chance-based whether you actually get a Dragon Scale from it or not. This way you can either mine and search for Dragon Fossils OR you can search for Dungeons and fight your way through them to claim your reward.
But like I said I MIGHT do it. While I do like the idea of having two different ways of getting Dragon Scales, I believe it's much more rewarding if you have to fight through a dungeon to loot the Dragon Scales.
I love the dragon fossil idea, it would give a nice twist to the game.
You should do something like this but it takes to to form (like after 5 minecraft days, 2 spawn per chunk, 10 minecraft days, 3 and etc).
Anyway, love the look of the mod and I'm looking forward to it =D

Maybe its more appropiate that they stay as dungeon rewards... kingbdogz is right since:
1.- its more rewarding that way and more valuable and rarer that diamond.
2.- it really encourages exploring and finding Dungeon Hearts (...i mean, mob spawners)
3.- It is more fitting... well... you know, normally when you think of a dragon scale you imagine a fight with a dragon, not finding it in some random rock...
Besides, all the other materials (diamond, iron, obsidian, etc) you can find them by mining because they are minerals in a way... but the dragon scale is not a mineral...
You make the dragon-fossil and you could use the redstone-fossil texture from the Painterly Pack opetions! o.o
And yes, please do the fossils. Dungeons are rare enough for me as it is. D=

I'm loving this mod, i have some ideas for an item.
The Obsidian compass.
It is built in the same manner to a compass but rather than pointing to your spawn point it points to the nearest significant (10+ source blocks in close proximity) lava source.
It's still experimental so it's subject to change.
Take that to the Nether and it'll go crazier than the redstone compass... Not that of a great idea considering that lava is easy to find... you just mine deep underground for a few minutes and BOOM there it is... And even if there was no lava underground (for some god forsaken reason) there is almost infinite lava in the Nether...
Besides, it doesn't follow any logic... Why would an obsidian compass detect lava nearby? thats like making a diamond compass that can detect more diamonds nearby... IT MAKES NO SENSE.

I've been busy at work recoding everything after the new update came out, and I've now got most of it done. Since I've left most of you in the dark, I've created a video for you all to see the new items I've added in (so far).
Before you watch, however, note a few things:
- The Infinite Durability on the Obsidian Tools is NOT intended, it's just temporary until I work out all of the names for the class files, since the new Minecraft update has scrambled them up.
- Dragon tools will be a lot faster than they are shown in this video. This is also temporary.
- Dragon Scale graphics has been changed, since the previous one did not look as good as I thought it would in-game.

To be honest, Nothing fun follows logic. The fun things follow the reality of the game , and makes its own logic.
Anyways, Kingbdogz Good job so far, but i would like to see very interactive elements. Tools are a dime a dozen re skin and tweak, but i also understand your doing these first to get "oriented" in how minecraft is structured ect .

You can go ahead and move at the speed of light, But i will move at the speed of darkness.
I look forward to its release. However I do have a question.
Are you planning on keeping this only Single or do you have plans on making this open to SMP as well? I don't play much single any more as im more so on SMP. I would play single a little more just to try out this mod and where it would take me, but SMP is more so my thing. So Im just curious on if you have plans for an SMP ver or just single.

I like this idea! :biggrin.gif:
Though, make it like 1/2,000 or something. One in 100 would be like an hour per stack of dragonscale. Haha.

Heres hoping Dragonscale is a new Ore. Oh, and any definite amounts of speed/durability for the obby items and the dragon items compared to diamond? (like is, Obby a little better, and then Dragon the best? Or is your obby a middle ground between iron and diamond like the other obby tools mod?)

i think he said that obsidian would be the same strength as iron, but with a very high durability...
- The strength of Iron and the durability that can withstand 2500 blocks,
OR
- The strength of Stone and infinite durability. These tools, however, could still mine everything which a Diamond tool could (which includes Obsidian, Gold, Redstone, but just at a much slower rate). This version would be quite handy when you're doing a large mining operation and you don't have much durability left on your Diamond pick.

Dragon fossils will now form in the ground after several Minecraft days. It's much easier, however, to battle your way through a Dungeon since you can get around 3 scales per chest. Fossils will be a rare chance to stumble upon, and NEVER form near the surface.
