1.gold block costs....what about blood stone? :tongue.gif:
2.
3 Slowsand should be enough to completely stop a full speed cart.
YES for empty carts, NO if you are on. I'v done kind of test, 3 for empty ones, the cart will stop almost one block far, nearly on the 4th block while you need 6 if you are in( not tested with friendly mobs or monsters), cart would stop on the 6th block
3.more strange, booster block more effective with carts have player in. I built a slope, one booster can sent a empty cart ~5 block high while it can sent a cart about 15 blocks high if you are in!
4.pressure plate do not work well, cart can pass one plate, but lost most of it's speed; if there are two, sometimes stopped one the first one, sometimes the seconds. I didnt do much test, they DO act strange
Yes, I'm definitely planning on creating separate recipes for booster/brake blocks - as soon as I figure out how to. <.<
As for moving in the minecart, you can already force it forwards and reverse from inside as long as it's going slow enough, which could be used to inch along. Are you saying that it's too slow right now?
When you say "as long as its going slow enough", that illustrates it perfectly. That threshold of how slow it has to be going. Maybe raise that a tad, the actual movement speed maybe too. Its all good, love it as it is.

Yeah, noticed the same thing while trying to get a chest-cart up to my base. Had to add a bunch of boosters as well as catching up to and bumping it everytime I followed in a minecart to make sure the boosters and placement of em were good. Bit weird, but not too bad.
I saw it does go reverse while going slow enough, looking forward to checking out the new update. Not a redstone guy, but the last time I tried it wouldnt flip some tracks no matter what I did so well see about that. Thanks again man
Gris, Iron is way over taxed at it is, especially if you're building minecart tracks (which I assume is the goal when using this mod :smile.gif: ). Perhaps obsidian?
blood stone are used as ground in nether - it would make trains unusable in nether. Iron block better fits this role
Well, that's a problem, but slow sand also can be seen every where down in the Nether isn't it? Means your cart can never get out of that XD
Separate recipestill needed I think
BTW, baking block should be more effective I think, 3 is too much, 1 block for totally stop is enough. 2, if someone what to use it as a slower (however seems useless)

I'm planning on using it as a slower so I can slow my cart down in my switching station so that I can easily hit a switch to change where I travel without having to exit/stop the cart. By using 2 blocks, I should be able to slow the cart enough to make hitting a switch fairly easy, and then use a booster to speed the cart back up again after a block or two. I'll have to test it out though :smile.gif:
EDIT: Oh, and avoiding/replacing slow sand that gets in the way in the nether wouldn't take much effort. But you'd have to replace (almost) every block if blood stone was used as a booster.
I keep crashing I make a track system then when I go to test it I place a minecart, it freezes and crashes then says
Minecraft has crashed!

Okay, I've heard your complaints about empty carts vs full carts acting differently. In v 1.6, carts will act the same regardless of the weight in them.

Okay, I think we can agree that gold is right out. However, Iron has its own problems, and obsidian is too rare.
What about lightstone?
That or, an original crafting recipe for a new block.

But slow sand isn't some kind of dirt down here, is more like gravel/clay in normal world :wink.gif:
I'm planning on using it as a slower so I can slow my cart down in my switching station so that I can easily hit a switch to change where I travel without having to exit/stop the cart.
Me too - slowing is very nice, and useful ability
What do you guy use slow to? Can you share your save or give me some shots? I'm curious about that :tongue.gif:
I need a totally brake in my system only...maybe due to my lack knowledge of cart station building science

Slowsand from the Nether acts as a brake - read the OP!

What about lightstone?
That or, an original crafting recipe for a new block.
I'm avoiding new blocks for 2 reasons:
I don't know how to add them
And they break saves when Notch updates the game
Anyway, I think lightstone is a genius idea for a booster - If everyone else is in agreement, Lightstone will replace Gold Blocks in 1.6 for the booster.
Anyway, I think lightstone is a genius idea for a booster - If everyone else is in agreement, Lightstone will replace Gold Blocks in 1.6 for the booster.
The only problem with that is that lightstone is still very hard to get in large amounts. It takes 9 dust (1 per lightstone found) to make a lightstone block. That means each lightstone cluster (which can be hard to get to) gives just 1 booster or so. Also, lightstone can't be picked up and moved like gold can (you just get 1 dust back).
How about an ore? As long as you don't smelt it, you can place it, pick it back up, and its easy to get (but still a valuable resource).
Bug report:
Non-autocart version: Plates are not tracks again. They stop carts as if your mod wasn't installed. Booster/bounce blocks work fine.
Autocart version: Bouncer block doesn't work (not sure if this is intentional, but it would be handy)
I admit i only skimmed through this, but you seem to be basing speed and braking and what not on the type of block under the track, which could hamper things in the Nether world. Why not make the track of the block you want to effect, ex. gold track to speed up, slow sand track to slow down, let the type of track have the effect, not the block under it. Or just tell me to shutup, i really don't know much, lol.
Abuse what?
I just want to change my carts direction, with out having to get out, stop it from moving, and then continuing on my way.
But again, slight annoyance when Im starting to destroy my mine cart.

Gold ore would work.
If I switched it to gold ore, (your argument is valid, and a good one), I would reduce the effect of boosters, so you need 3 to do the job of 1 old one.
Better idea: Gold ore acts as a weak booster, it has 25% the effect of the current booster. Gold blocks are more powerful boosters, but compact. Their effect stays the same.

1.) Plates will stop slow moving carts, it has to do with the interaction between it being pressed in, I'm not sure if I can improve it any more than it already is.
2.) The new booster/brake/bouncer mechanics were not made for the Autocart version. If you read the OP carefully, you will see I mentioned that.

I know - slowsand is rare in the Nether world, which is not a problem IMO. I have avoided Hellstone for that reason though. Adding new tracks entirely would wreck saves everytime Notch updates the game, which is often. Keeping this mod free of new blocks/items prevents that.

The blocks would be a waste then. It takes 9 ore to build a block. This system would make the ore 1/4 as fast a booster as the block is. That means that you can either place 4 ore, which equals 4 ore (duh), or 1 block, which equals 9 ore, to get the same effects.
However, it would save on space. I would personally go with Gold Blocks instantly reaching max speed (if its possible) then have the ore be 20% of THAT, instead of what it is currently.
Using existed blocks for new usage a wonderful idea, I admit it
As what you said

Maybe it's a good idea to make the system a mirror to baking blocks.
This way we have 5 new blocks, materials needed may be like this:
(My opinion: sort with usage frequency, boosters are more likely to be used, this way they should be "cheaper", baking the next, on the contrary the bouncer should be costy, for example gold block)
normal boosters:
speed up, can sent a cart(empty or full) about 3~5 blocks high(depends on you)
recipe:cloth (speak frank, I don't like the idea using any ore as building material, I can not help but to mine them :tongue.gif:)
or new block
powered boosters:
speed maximum, can sent a cart about 10~15 blocks high
recipe:light stone(remember you can't get a light stone itself, each light stone need 9 sulfur, and once you break one, you lost 8 out of 9. They ARE expensive too, but maybe reasonable than gold block)
or gold block(hard to get, need 9 gold ore. Since you need at least 10 obsidian and the risk of dead to get 9 sulfur, gold blocks is a easier choice somehow)
or obsidian(not a hard to get one, but may drive you crazy if you often change your design :tongue.gif: especially you are not using mods like super pick, for example, me)
or new block
normal braking:
slow a full-speed cart within 3 blocks (full or empty)
recipe:two half-block (may not suitable but can guarantee no similar things in natural)
or brick block(the same reason)
powered braking:
slow a full-speed cart within 1 block
recipe:slow sand(seems no alternate)
bouncer:stay the same (and the cheapest one!! only one cloth needed)
What's more, there are still many empty block place in the block list, if the accelerate/brake block accepted by Notch, new blocks/crafting recipes should appear soon

I understand the placing the Ore would be more economical, but would use up more space. If space was not a concern, then it's the best method, but in some situations space is crucial. It'd force a choice of economics on players, which I like.
