How do you open a .dat file such as level.dat

No one wants to help someone who wants to develop something? D:

You need an NBT parser (the file format used for the .dat files and the chunk files). Google for "python nbt paser" and you find a decent one.

Open it up with 7-zip, inside is a file called "level". Edit with your favourite hex editor.

Or use an NBT parser as Mine_Ender suggested.
