So what you're basically saying is that you're too lazy to compress all the files into a zip yourself? There's no new compatibility due to the new update. All previously working packs still work...
No not lazy, just unfamiliar with the all the nuances of texture packs for minecraft. That's why notch coded an easy system to change texture packs, so people other than the hard-core geeks can do it.
We need somewhere to put the "official" texture packs that are compatible, to differentiate the packs that require separate installers.

Any 16x16 px texture pack that has been updated since the Halloween update would be compatible with the game... just take the .zip file and place in the in the texturepacks folder. It's not that hard. My thread does a good job of keeping track of the currently working texture packs.
can someone please tell me how you can change the color of the water? personally what bugs me the most is the primary colors on everything in minecraft, and while I've been able to change the grass I'm not sure what file outside of Terrain.png and Water.png determines it's color.
Should the mods enforce a tag system for threads in this board?
Mods should have [MOD]
Texture packs should have [TP] or [TEX]

Can anyone sssspare ssssome Gunpowder? it wassss taken from me thissss morning... CURSSSSE YOU SSSSTEVE!!! Sssseeya folkssss
I'm hoping to make a new block, but I really want it to spawn naturally and only in spaces next to a tree. I'm new to programing (My dad's teaching me some things and we'll be working on this together) so I'm not really sure where I would edit something like that.
Is there something that could help point us in the right direction for that part? We should be able to make the block just fine.

Where can I download a copy of the original texture pack to play around with? ):
That's what I deducted from the [Tutorial] Creating a 1.2.2+ texture pack

Open up minecraft.jar and look in the terrain folder.
the ones i need are for the boat, cart and sign.
i found most of the other texture keys for terrain and mobs on different threads, but this one seems to be a little rare
here is someone who solved the mob key if anyones been searching.
