No, i tried it. games like minecraft use a technique called Culling, it is a technique to allow anything that is outside of vision to become invisible. in the situation where you make the stone transparent, yes you can see throught it but at the same time anything within the rock such as ore isn't technically visible. objects deep in also have no light on them so they become opaque black due to that. exceptions to this is lava, as it emits light it allows you to see it however you don't see straight through to bedrock. i wouldn't advise doing it as it mucks up the other textures...
I know that happens, I was just wondering if it would work. It'd add a somewhat larger surprise when you find diamond, right? Tunneling, tunneling, nothing interesting... DIAMOND?!?!?!??!

Not really, no. You can't see diamond normally, and with the way invisible stone works, it's not going to be any more interesting because you won't see it until you've removed the stone right before it. It'll be no different than having normal stone.

I already know that. With invisible stone, uncovering it under one block feels even more like a discovery, hacking away at empty blocks only to realize they were mirrors hiding precious ore. It works just like glass, or atleast in a similar way.
