I do not take the whining personally at all. If anything it is helping me improve the pack. Cactus is a metal block until I can get my custom one done.
I'm very pleased that you understand where I'm coming from, and that you're making a custom metroid-feeling cactus block. I can't wait to see it!
Re-reading my last post, ("How is that an improvement? Isn't clay a missile block?") I feel as though it wasn't very constructive criticism, and I would like to rectify that now:
I think that blocks should look very much like what they are. Gravel is made of many small rocks (or anything in a similar vein. For example, I imagine the DogScape pack will *not* have gravel be rocks, but many small pieces of dog or something to that effect) and the texture for a gravel block should reflect that.
On the topic of the superbomb, supermissile, and missile blocks, I think that a more appropriate place to use them would be the solid blocks of minerals (iron, gold, and diamond) as they would add a decorative feel to them rather than just having a plain ol' solid color block. I realize you were thinking of using that skull block thingy as the gold block, and I like that as well, but as an alternative, you could use the skull block as a block of redstone ore. This would render the skull block as a non-placeable block (barring hax) so I'm not too sure about that.
Sheesh, I didn't realize that making a texture pack was so full of decisions!

Tell me about. And the Metroid series isn't really keen on different ground types that fit. I'm going to keep TNT as Super Missiles for obvious reasons and I really don't want to change Iron for the fact if people want to make metal walls/floors/roofs. Gold has to be the Face blocks since I don't want to make them not place-able without hax. Gravel and Clay are most likely going to get changed. Oh and Diamond blocks as well.
Thanks for all the info guys and if you have a suggestion please tell me. It would make my job so much easier.

That would defeat the purpose of using it to decorate a castle or a house though. :c
Also, @MikeSword, I can't think of anything else at this time. All I can do is offer my full support and thanks for such a great idea and such wonderful execution.

That's right, I have a WIP Retexture. Check it out here! Yes! I'm a Communist! ☭
I think that blocks should look very much like what they are.
but not having to follow this rule is very much modding is all about. You don't have to play by the creator's rules, but can make the game a bit like you* want it to be. he could make gravel look like phazon crystals if he wants. or like ridley's poopoo :V

What you say is very true. My opinion only has significance if anyone gives it significance.
EDIT: It looks... SOOOOOO good. Only one problem so far... night fell and I'm in a castle made of cobblestone.
Torches are your friends. :B
Yes, and they are all over the walls, too. Still very hard to see. I just took the file into Gimp and turned up those blocks' brightness a few ticks; much less tripping on the floor as I cross the room. Might recommend the OP to do the same...

The above post works in theory, but theory is a treacherous thing that can at any moment dissolve like a biscuit raft.
The reason it's so dark is that there's such a dark color scheme to the whole texture. I'm going to stand by it, tooth and nail, because it makes the the entire game more evocative of dark emotion, and generally adds a fantastic, dynamic feeling. I can practically hear that old NES metroid music and feel the presence of alien abominations around every corner.

Oh very true. I love the dark atmosphere. I'm still searching for a way to change the colour of the sky and fog and such (if you know how, I'd appreciate a pointer) to make it a darker, sort of demonic feel. I would have left it alone if it didn't impede my ability to move around the castle. I suppose it may just be my monitor or something on my end, but if it recurs across multiple cases, then I might say to turn it up just a bit, or perhaps offer the lightened version for those that need it.
Still, it's a wonderfully atmospheric texture pack and I think I'll be keeping it for quite a while. The grass, dirt, and plants I especially like. I walked outside and was immersed in something... otherworldly...

On that note, This modification has caused me to bust out and dust off the old NES. I found my copy of the original 1986 Metroid! I've been playing it non-stop for hours now.
If you feel the desire to play it but have no way to, save up about 100$, go to amazon and buy the system and game. TOTALLY worth it.

I have one too! I got a Yellow Label one though . I actually I found it in a retro gaming shop about a year ago for $10. Lucky me :]
The people who are having trouble seeing forgot to pick up the Thermal Visor.
Hmmm. That gives me a idea. Should have it done in a few moments.
Alright. This is still a very WIP idea and I might not even keep it but for anyone who wants to try it here you go.
It goes in the misc folder.
And yes I know the energy/armor is off.

And this is why I can't wait for true modding support instead of just overlapping textures. I would love to make it so your Energy/armor is right where you want it, slanted, to make it Metroidy.
Edit: Or even be able to move the Inventory box's to the sides of the screen, and move the Energy/Armor down. I can think of so many adventure map ideas that would benefit from ideas as such as this.

I have to say, if Diamond is not made into proper Phazon and the Diamond armour into the matching suit, I will be much disappoint.
...
No I won't, but I really do want to mine Phazon :<
It looks brilliant, screenshots compelled me to read on. I am yoinking the latest terrain.png at the time of writing. Excellent work, and DO NOT STOP.
