I stared out looking for some raw elevation data, but I couldn't find what I wanted nor could I really work with the data, so I just grabed a grayscale heightmap from an image search and messed with the contrast.
That's awesome! :biggrin.gif:
Think you could do anything with the elevation maps I posted here? viewtopic.php?f=25&t=41841 (scroll to the bottom for the better ones)
I can generate maps in any format you'd like. (even on a 128 color gradient --just tell me how you'd like them and I'll see what I can do)
Any locations you'd like DEM maps for?
(Mars/Moon data is pretty easy to find as well >.>)
I completely understand if you don't want to deal with this that type of thing though.
I'd just like to see some real world maps. ;D
Think you could do anything with the elevation maps I posted here?
Potentially, but you seem to already have the hard part worked out (images and sizes). Just download OMEN, set the map size you want, and then import a greyscale heightmap.
If if need any help, just ask, but it should be a fairly simple process.

Wow! I had no idea Omen could do that!
Thanks! I'll see what I can do :biggrin.gif:
First task on my list:
figure out how to run that function without the world view. (no need to use unnecessary system resources.)
Actually that's not true. The proof is that while these images are 32 bit, The Sims Create-A-World needs weird-ass 16 bit greyscale images, or it makes a weird double map.
Believe me, I tried.
Edit: They may be Simcity 4 region maps though... I have work to do.
I'm going to hit the sack and catch some z's while Sims 3 reinstalls (almost as slow as FFXIV's installer). I am somwhat annoyed to find that Create-a-World actually checks to see that Sims 3 is installed. I'm fairly sure I remember seeing them before as various-sized maps that I'd gotten from EA with that tool, particularly Atoll and the Moon surface one because I thought it was a rather dreadful map for a Sims neighborhood). What CAW needs or doesn't need didn't slow me down at all since I was editing the things in Gimp. Converting bit depths is trivial stuff. I'll report back one way or another when I've gotten a chance to look around in the thing.
I've never tested it out myself, but in OMEN there's a function called "Import layer for image" or something similar.
Yeah, I thought about that shortly after I posted. In fact, that's how I made the streets on the older maps. I might try it some time, but I haven't had much time to make maps lately.
Can anyone tell me what these maps are still compatible with? Can they be imported into SMP?

Great maps by the way, just too bad there's no ores/caves in them.
Thanks! Some of them had ore in them, but I didn't re-upload those version when I had to change hosts. It's not too hard to load these back up into Omen and use the add ore tool (or whatever it's called).
Mostly working with a grey-scale image in Photoshop. Then I import it into OMEN as a height-map. I have the layers in Photoshop set up so I can see where OMEN will make the land either water, sand or grass. Then I place the prefab trees by hand, layer by layer. For the roads, I export the one layer to Photoshop, draw them in (with a lot of copy and paste) then import it back.
seems like a lot of work to do, if you have a video that shows how to do this, Ill check it for sure.
anyways, could you make a desert map and a winter map, ill really like it. thanks for your awesome maps

heh, i seem to figure it out, i made a world map out of the omen feature, the isocraft was a bit weird
i'll have to get some more height maps, im having trouble uploading my image so ill just give out the site

That was brilliant. Now you need to go in there, maybe even in-map and edit it. I'd say make New Zealand slightly flatter, and make Antarctica completely snow and ice. Maybe a few other things, and then release it as a save.

Can't wait to see more, when you start this up again.
