would there be any way to merge two maps together? I want to merge an existing map of mine with a floating islands map converted to .dat for a later server map. I haven't found a copy feature in omen yet, or in NBTForge and would be glad to know if it can be done.

i dont believe there is. niehter omen or NBT edit have those capabilities. mabey somebody oculd write program to overwrite all the air blocks on the normal map, with blocks from the floating map.

Give me an internet, or Chuck Norris will kill you!!!
It can be done in Paint3D but it might be hard depending on map size.
Arbitrary scaling can be done as well but the result will be blocky (more than normal, I mean) when enlarging.
if there arent any overhangs, i suppose you can open one in omen, export to heightmap, then do the same for the other. once you've got that, edit the heightmaps together with paint/paint.net/photoshop/gimp, and then create a new map to the dimensions you need in omen. import the heightmap, and it SHOULD work. but you've most likely edited the maps and sutch, so it wont work...
EDIT: *facepalm* i typed all that just to realize that you said a FLOATING island map. ignore this post... wont work...

I'll bet I can do this with Python. Let me know if you haven't solved this problem yet. I only know how to edit the new style ".mclevel" maps, but I think there are programs to convert between that and .dat files.
Install python 2.6, and put this script in the folder with your maps. http://www.peripheralarbor.com/minecraft/MCUnity.py . You'll have to open it with a text editor to change a few little things (file names, basic settings) but I think it's worth it. Also, the maps must be the same size. If there's interest, I can make it support dissimilar map sizes.
EDIT: I've updated the code, so it runs much faster for "adjacent" and "stacked" maps. Also, tested it out with huge maps, and it works fine.
Be careful about terrain types. I tried "adjacent" with a 'floating' and an 'island' type and all the water rushing into the void caused un-manageable lag.
Here are some screen shots.

Let me know if you need any help with this. The directions in the file are pretty straightforward. Everything is at the top. I'd be willing to add features as well, if there is another kind of merging anyone would like see.
