I've looked at things like OpenCraft, but Java is not my native language.
I would like to use a language that I'm familiar with (such as C#)
So what exactly do I need to know?
- Protocol?
- Client specific stuff?
I have made things in the past that use networking (IRCBots, Chat server) I even helped with a small network game.
Please help. I'm really determined to make a custom server.
Thanks,
- Caleb

If you want an example of a complete open source game server coded in C# take a look at RunUO (Ultima Online server).
Other than that you'll have to use a packet sniffer and figure out the stuff for yourself.

I wouldn't listen to a thing I say. I'm probably insane.
so far it can store organized logs and has an IRCBot (dang I can't not use those things =p)
I'm working on the heartbeat now.
EDIT: Oh, it can also save/load maps
