Hi y'all. I was playing on a server made with the ZOMG map generator, and my friend and I were spelunking. We stumbled across a cave that looked suspiciously man-made. It wasn't, the server was fresh and at that point private. And the random TNT and bookcases confused me a bit until it was explained to me. But it got me thinking.
Is there any way a generator could be programmed to plant pre-designed structures into a map? Forgive the analogy if you're a Halo hater, but I'm imagining a Silent Cartographer, bits and pieces of Forerunner architecture scattered deep underground. Digging about aimlessly and stumbling onto a room that no one built, huge and awesome and totally ****ing kickass.
Obviously, this could be otherwise applicable. Some nice greek ruins hidden on ocean floors. A giant skull shaped mountain, lol. Maybe a bombed out skyscraper, or crumbling tower. I DON'T CARE WHAT. It would be epic. My favorite thing when I started playing multiplayer was when I would stumble across some long forgotten creation. I want that back!
My disclaimer: I dunno nothing about no coding. Dunno bout no programming. I have no idea if this is even vaguely possible. But if it is I would love someone to implement it, and I'll help in whatever limited ways I can!
I just noticed that, lol. I'm installing it now to check it out. I'm suspecting that they are randomly generated though. The type of structures I'm imagining would be complex enough that they would have to be manually designed, the only randomness would be their placement. But I'll check OMEN out and get back to this.
Okay, the ruins feature is pretty tight. I can't tell though, if they are randomly generated, or if there is some palette of them that the program selects from. I guess I should ask the creator. If there is such a palette, I want to be able to edit them 8D
When I first started playing, I always got a kick out of finding caves. Would dig for hours looking for them. Tried the ruins generator in my underground kingdom thinking it would look like something the dwarves were excavating. But alas, half the ruins ended up in mid-air in the larger rooms.
An excellent suggestion would be to create a building, structure, or room with something like Omen, then be able to import it into a map, either randomly or otherwise. This would also allow you to save structures you make that can later be loaded into perhaps a show-and-tell map. I had thought Omen allowed you to do this, but if that function is there, I've never got it to work.

Ok just found the prefab button in Omen and figured out how to select where to place ruins. My bad for using quick ruins.
New question now. How can I add items to the prefab tab? Or is it limited to just trees and ruins?
I will have your children, raise them to be good intelligent hardworking members of society and let you borrow my wife for a week, if you release the 0.7.0 versian soon.
