Cyan blocks are of the block types I didn't write in because I was lazy :tongue.gif:
Any requests are welcome, although only stuff connected to the terrain will be shown, e.g. no flying spaceships.
I think I'll make it less dark in the future.

<Quatroking> Minecraft is a dozen of puppies and kittens smashed into cubes, then mixed up with a few ounces of pure liquid rainbow and after that it spends two hours in the oven. Ready to be played by another drooling ten-year old
It took about 10-12 minutes to render it for 4000x3000, AA 0.3.
I doubt it is useful for anything else than showing MC maps, like other viewers. Maybe realistic timelapse videos :biggrin.gif:

This looks very cool. However, one little thing bugs me.
How is this in any way useful?
That would be all.
possibly the base for a map editor
No, POV-Ray isn't a real time renderer (it's a click-and-wait kind of thing)
Very sexy.

Is the raytracing for lighting, or is it to only draw visible blocks?
Most likely everything - a ray finds the first visible polygon (seems like he made a continuous mesh from the terrain) and then kicks back to the lights (from what I can see it's some kind of random process to make soft shadows). It can also trace more rays to do reflection/refraction but I don't think he used that on this image.

No idea, but it's still cool

How is Minecraft useful in any way? The answer: it's entertaining. Same for this. It's interesting; hence, it's useful.

You answered the question with your first sentence. "This looks very cool"
Is the raytracing for lighting, or is it to only draw visible blocks?
