What is the maximum map size? I've been experimenting with various map sizes and all that, and 512 seems to be the biggest that the client can join. One of WoM's maps right now is 895x895x512 I believe, the thing is huge. Does their custom serverware allow them the larger map? Or do I just not have enough power to host an 895 map?
I've been wondering that too, for the same reason he is, since we're working on the same map. You should see a thread about it showing up soon, when we're content with the harder labor to allow some of you guys to contribute :biggrin.gif:

Okay, in recent times certain aspects have changed about map loading.
1024^2*16 is the maximum for an ordinary client to download, though it would appear custom servers can relay maps bigger than that. I don't know how, but it works. As far as I'm aware, of course, I'm just repeating what I've heard here.
For a normal server I recommend you go no bigger than
We really need an option to set the center of the map. Some of us want More underground than above ground, and having to split it in half just hurts everything. Our map is already 256 tall, but we only need about 50 above ground at least. We do want the water to be level with the center of the map.

Sorry to bump my old thread like this, but, I was wondering.
We're currently using a 512x512x256 and it seems the more we add to the map the slower it seems to be getting. Due to this I'm only able to host it only on my most powerful computer. If I attempt to host it on a different computer, the server causes my wireless connection to crap out on me. Now I've already increased the amount of ram that the server uses (normally uses around 520 MB), which seems to help on the only computer I can host on. But still doesn't help on my other computers. What kind of requirements Does hosting a server even take? Are there any things I can do to help speed things up? Now, after our most recent large scale project on the map, on occasion I'll get an error in my client saying it ran out of memory. Which while I find funny, it's quite aggravating. I've seen this error in both WoM and the normal client on the site. Am I doing something wrong?
On a similar but related thing. I made an 895x512x256 which actually worked for me. But the map had broken physics and there was a large area that no blocks would appear in (but still showed their outline) thats similar to what the bottom of the game world looks like now. Which is again is funny.
