So I have been searching for about 6 hours and cannot find any tutorial on this, but I know its possible since I play on a modded version which does this.
Basically it is a forge mod that has optifines source in it, so its like an all in one mod (combines things like world downloader, map writer, optifine). I'm wondering how/where to install optifine to do this? I have tried getting the source and dragging it into my forge mod src, usually there's over 6k errors, or it is the compiled version.
If not optifine, the mod also has other things like world downloader bundled, how would I install world downloader into my mod for custom modification to it?
You are most likely thinking of a modpack, a collection of independent mods which are installed as if they are a single mod if you use one of the launchers designed for them but they aren't (you can also install them independently). Otherwise, Optifine is closed source and if you make a mod using source obtained from somewhere online you may risk getting a DMCA from Optifine's creator (IDK if they actually do this but I know that Optifine is closed source; in particular, it is illegal to distribute Mojang's own code, which Optifine directly modifies but apparently not enough to call it their own).
Of course, you can replicate Optifine's features with your own code, as I have done (e.g. "zoom" works by lowering the FOV and enabling smooth camera when you press a key; "clear water" changes the light opacity of water from 3 to 1 and reduces underwater fog, and "better grass" uses the top texture on the sides). More difficult would be rendering optimizations but IMO it doesn't really do much other than optimize how chunk updates are handled and adds finer control over graphical quality features (I've decompiled and previously modified the 1.6.4 version for personal use; I did so by adding it to the Minecraft jar and decompiled it with MCP, with only a couple errors related to Forge/installer stuff which could just be removed).

TheMasterCaver's First World - possibly the most caved-out world in Minecraft history - includes world download.
TheMasterCaver's World - my own version of Minecraft largely based on my views of how the game should have evolved since 1.6.4.
Why do I still play in 1.6.4?
