I'm using Eclipse as my IDE (probs gonna be switching to InteliJ soon but not yet)
There are a few reasons why i need to override the vanilla default textures in a mod instead of a reasource pack, one of those reasons being that this is for a server in which my team wants to make sure players will always see these textures by default (too many people decline downloading custom resourcepacks when they join a vanilla server, but modded servers force you to have the required mods), the team is also already using the mod for actual custom building blocks and extra functionality, so it makes the most sense to just change the textures on the already existing mod, rather than creating a completely new reasourcepack
Anywho, i saw on a very very old post that you could override the vanilla textures but making a folder directory like vanilla:
<my mod name>/src/main/resources/minecraft/textures/<whatever subfolders i need for items or blocks etc>
as a test i wanted to replace the totem of undying, so i put my custom texture into this:
<my mod name>/src/main/resources/minecraft/textures/item/totem_of_undying.png
when i run my build, nothing breaks or anything, but the texture hasnt changed at all, is this due to 1.14.4? or did i get something else wrong?
just a few things first,
