For some reason the numUsingPlayers integer is always zero, even though I've confirmed it to be working inside the tile entity. Can anybody see anything wrong?
If you mean more than one of my modded block, then no. Even then it shouldn't really matter, since the TileEntity for my block is bound to it, and the tile works. I'm also not certain as to what your point is.
I have my copy of the function and the rest of my code here: https://github.com/T145/hungrystorage/blob/master/src/main/java/T145/hungrystorage/common/blocks/BlockChestHungryTrapped.java#L73

It could be a client/server synchronization issue.
How so? What could be done to check/resolve such an issue?
Do you have more than one of your block in your test world? Blocks are singletons, every block in a world is the same instance of its class.
Please don't PM me asking for help, I will just redirect you to the appropriate forum, where there are others who are far more skilled than me.

Turns out all I needed to do was just update the neighbor blocks!
