Forge is for script kiddies. Finally learn Java. Sorry for my statement, but I see it just so, and I see no advantage to the Forge Api.
PS: Sorry for my English
What the hell are you going on about? Forge does not remove the need to know Java, it attempts to remove the need to modify base code in a way that makes it incompatible with any other mods doing the same thing. The fact that you decided to throw in "script kiddies" implies to me that you don't actually know much about Forge.
Yeah, forge will live forever (unless Mojang do something even more stupid than usual)
Modloader is dead, as it cannot do anything with entities, packets, GUI's or just about anything else
If you wan't to do anything more than add a block or recipe you need forge
Not to criticize but I hate people with wrong opinions or information. Modloader CAN do anything farge can, it just takes more knowledge with Java coding. For instance I made a mod that added in a whole new deminsion WITH npc's I uploaded it to pmc (I have 3 accounts cant remember which one I uploaded it with[the reason I have 3 is ones for mods, ones for trxtures, ones foir project, although I sometimes Cross load])
Please do not do childish thins like while giving the community false information.

It takes Java knowledge on both, but Forge has more to work with and you shouldn't have to make any base edits. Hence Forge is a API for mods and Modloader just allows multiple mods to work. But I don't like when people just go out and say "Modloader sucks", redfox

So I was wondering, what is the difference between ModLoader and Forge? I've heard that Forge is more flexible and has more methods and such, but I've never used it in my mods. I've always used ModLoader, which seems like the standard for most mods.
So, to those people who have used both, what is your opinion on this? Why would one be more preferable than the other? What type of mods would be better suited for Forge over ModLoader?
Thanks in advance.
Modloader is extremely limited, if you want good compatibility you use Forge. A lot of mods are becoming/ are forge mods, Modloader is starting to fade away, but the benefits are huge. For example, the limit to block IDs are 4096 max, and there is no limit to sprites and/ or textures. If you wanna load up on APIs that just make it harder to install. Forge is extremely backwards compatible with other mods.
Forge can make your mc launch slower while modloader will be as quick as a roadrunner (which I've learned that they are NOT as fast as the ysay in looney tunes XD) But Forge has more variety and sometimes better mods (Except for gulliver guys, gulliver forged has too many bugs) But what I do is download 2 jar's, one with Modloader, one with forge, and just switch off all the time when I wanna do different stuff so I recommend doing both. DOWNLOAD 2 JAR'S FOR MULTI EXPERIENCE EVEN AND APPROVE! JUST DONT MAKE YOUR FALL INTO THE ! AND IF YOU KILL WITH YOU GET (Couldn't find porkchop emote) Basically its downgrading rules for my usage.
Modloader CAN do anything farge can, it just takes more knowledge with Java coding.
Does Modloader have something like Forge's event system? If not, no amount of Java coding knowledge is going to help you do something like that without base class edits, and I make extensive use of that in two of my mods.

ok, for someone who dont want to create or "make" a mod but just use one like treeCapitator... is it better to install Forge or ModLoader?
I'm totally not in java or programming, I just want to download some mods and use them and as I read, we need to use Forge or ModLoader.
so for a total newbie who know just about nothing in programming, ModLoader or Forge?

You do realize this entire conversation was about which is better to code with right? Install whatever the mod tells you you need to install, it's not like one will universally work with the other...

Actually, most Modloader mods should also work on Forge, as Forge includes its own version of ModLoader (appropriately named Forge ModLoader, or FML). Unless the mod specifically states it won't work with Forge, most likely due to overwriting the same files Forge does, then Forge should cover all your bases more effectively.
